Ramesh Jarkiholi
Ramesh Jarkiholi (born 1 May 1960) an Indian politician, former minister of Water Resources in the Government of Karnataka, between 2020 and 2021. As member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he represents Gokak in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He previously served as the Minister for Municipal Administration. Jarkiholi is a six-time member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. In June 2016, he was inducted into the Siddaramaiah-led government of Karnataka as a cabinet minister. He held the Small Scale Industries Ministry portfolio. He was disqualified from the assembly as per the anti-defection law in 2019, but was re-elected to the assembly on a BJP ticket in December 2019. The Anti-Defection law, or the 52nd Amendment to the Constitution of India, Indian Constitution is a constitutional amendment limiting the ability of politicians to switch parties in parliament. The Constitution was amended to prevent elected MLAs and MPs from changing parties. Before the introduction of the anti-defection law, the election of both the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers of some of its List of states and territories of India, states and territories had experienced instances of perceived uncertainty resulting from legislators changing their political allegiance.
