Ramadan
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (''Fasting in Islam, sawm''), communal prayer (salah), reflection, and community. It is also the month in which the Quran is believed to have been revealed to the Prophets of Islam, Islamic prophet Muhammad. The annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the Hilal (crescent moon), crescent moon to the next. The Ramadanid Emirate (Turkish language, Modern Turkish: ''Ramazanoğulları Beyliği'') was a Turkish people, Turkish autonomous administration and a ''de facto'' independent emirate that existed from 1352 to 1608 in Cilicia, taking over the rule of the region from the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. The emirate was a protectorate of the Mamluk Sultanate (Cairo), Mamluk Sultanate until the end of the 14th century, then it was de facto independent for more than a century, and then, from 1517, a protectorate of the Ottoman Empire. The capital was Adana. The Ramadanid Emirate was the only emirate in Anatolia that was not a successor of the Sultanate of Rum, Anatolian Seljuk Sultanate. Ramazan Kubat (born 4 October 1974), better known as Kubat, is a Turkish folk singer and composer distinguished with his particular style and his applied use of electronic instruments in his songs. Early life Kubat was born in Antwerp in 1974. His father was an Alevi Muslim Turk and his mother is a Sunni Muslim Turk from Karacalar village in Emirdağ. His uncle is a hafiz from the same village. He is now based in Turkey since over a decade, he was advantaged by the opportunities and outlets his talents found already at a very early age. Ramazan Bashardost (; born 1961) is an Afghan politician who was the former planning minister in Afghanistan and a former member of the National Assembly of Afghanistan. He was an independent candidate in the 2009 Afghan presidential election. Early life and education Ramzan Bashardost was born in Qarabagh District, Ghazni Province of Afghanistan to a Hazara family. He is fluent in Persian and Pashto. He completed his primary and intermediate education in Qarabagh and later in Maimana, capital of Fariyab in northern Afghanistan.
