Ramadan Çitaku
Ramadan Çitaku (1914-1990) (known as Baca) was an Albanian politician of the Party of Labour of Albania. A native of Kosovo, he was one of the founding members of the Albanian Communist Party, member of the General Council of the National Liberation Movement (Albania), National Liberation Movement during World War II, Ministry of Finance (Albania), Minister of Finance of Albania, and diplomat. Biography Çitaku was born in Mitrovica, Kosovo, which had only a few years before come under Serbian control. He studied in the "Harry Fultz Technical School" in Tirana, along with other future prominent Albanian communists as Anastas Lula, Sadik Premtja, Muhamet Gjollesha, Mehmet Shehu, and Sadik Stavaleci. He was one of the founding members of the Albanian Communist Party, which after World War II was transformed into Party of Labour. Albanian Resistance During World War II
In Albania, World War II began with its invasion by Italy in April 1939. Fascist Italy set up Albania as its protectorate or puppet state. The resistance was largely carried out by Communist groups against the Italian (until 1943) and then German occupation in Albania. At first independent, the Communist groups united in the beginning of 1942, which ultimately led to the successful liberation of the country in 1944. The Center for Relief to Civilian Populations (Geneva) reported that Albania was one of the most devastated countries in Europe. 60,000 houses were destroyed and about 10% of the population was left homeless. Llambi Gegprifti
Llambi Gegprifti (14 February 1942 – 1 May 2023) was an Albanian politician who was the mayor of Tirana (precisely Chairman of the Executive Committee of the People's Council of Tirana District) from 1986 through 1987 and 1989 through 1990. He was candidate-member of the Politburo of the Party of Labour of Albania for terms of 1971, 1976, 1981, and 1986 (the last one). Kiço Mustaqi
Kiço Mustaqi (22 March 1938 – 24 January 2019) was a former Albanian general and politician of the Albanian Party of Labour. He served as Chief of the General Staff of Albanian People's Army, the last Minister of Defence of the communist era in Albania, and was a member of the Politburo. Biography Mustaqi was born in Pecë, a village of the Sarandë District (today's Finiq municipality). He was of Greek ethnicity. He left the village at the age of 13, moving initially in Kuçovë to follow the school there, and later entered the Skanderbeg Military High School in Tirana where he graduated as a military officer in 1960, at the eve of the Soviet-Albanian split. Pirro Kondi (born 1924, date of death unknown, 2015 or before) was an Albanian politician of the Party of Labour of Albania (PPSh). Coming from a family with strong communist background, he became member of the Albanian Parliament and a candidate-member of the Politburo of the Party of Labour of Albania by the '80. Manush Myftiu
Manush Myftiu (16 January 1919 – 20 October 1997) was an Albanian politician during the country's socialist period. He served in a number of positions, most recently as the deputy prime minister. Early life Myftiu was born in Vlora to a family of Albanian Muslim landowners. In 1939, he graduated from a Classical Lycée in Rome, Italy and while in his hometown, joined a communist cell. From 1940 to 1941 he studied at the Medical Faculty of the University of Turin but did not complete his studies, returning to Vlora where he was obliged to join the Albanian Fascist Youth. While a member of it, he simultaneously remained a member of a communist cell, carrying out clandestine activities against fascism and becoming a member of the Communist Party of Albania (from 1948, the Party of Labour of Albania) after it was founded. Rita Marko
Rita Marko (17 February 1920 – 15 June 2018) was an Albanian political figure who served in a number of positions in Albania during its socialist period. Biography Rita Marko was of Aromanian origin, with his father hailing from Bunavi in Vlorë County of pro-Albanian leanings. Later they settled in Voskopojë. He was a shepherd. Rita's mother, Parashqevi, was the daughter of teacher Anastas Mihallari, and her family originated from Ioannina, now in Greece. Rita's family was victim of raids on Voskopojë by marauding bands, in which many local civilians, including his uncle Pushi, were killed. His family had to flee Voskopojë as a result, and he would later describe his lament for the destruction of the "cultural monument" that Voskopojë was as he described it. The Politburo () was the leading organ of the Party of Labour of Albania. It comprised key government ministers and Central Committee secretaries and served as the main administrative and policy-making body, convening on a weekly basis. Kiço Ngjela
Kiço Ngjela (25 December 1917 – 16 June 2002) was an Albanian politician of the Albanian Party of Labour (PPSh). Ngjela was born in Sheper (Zagori, Albania, Zagori region) of the Gjirokastër District in Albania. In 1945 he became a member of the Constituent Assembly (Alb: ''Asambleja Kushtetuese'') which declared Albania as a Republic. After 1950, he was a member of the Parliament of Albania, People's Assembly (Alb: ''Kuvendi Popullor''), representing the Tirana District until 10 October 1975. Later, he was temporarily deputy chairman of the State Planning Commission. On 6 February 1948, Ngjela succeeded Ramadan Çitaku as Ministry of Finance (Albania), Minister of Finances in the government of Prime Minister Enver Hoxha.
