Rakitnica
Rakitnica ( sr-cyrl, Ракитница) is the main tributary of the first section of the Neretva river, also called Upper Neretva ''( bs, Gornja Neretva)''. It meets Neretva from the right, flowing from north to south, between Bjelašnica and Visočica mountains. Geography The Rakitnica river begins as Crna Rijeka ''(English = Black River)'' from "Zucina Vrela" ''(English = "Zuco's Wellsprings")'' that emerges in the areal above Rakitnica village under the northwestern ridge of Treskavica mountain, and after a short run, cca. 2 kilometers, and confluence with Glibovac creek it becomes Rakitnica. The Rakitnica river forms a 26 km long canyon, on its 33 km long stretch, carved between Bjelašnica and Visočica, southeast from Sarajevo. There is a hiking trail along the ridge of the Rakitnica canyon, all the way to famous village of Lukomir. Neretva
The Neretva ( sr-cyrl, Неретва, ), also known as Narenta, is one of the largest rivers of the eastern part of the Adriatic basin. Four HE power-plants with large dams (higher than 150,5 metres) provide flood protection, power and water storage. It is recognized for its natural environment and diversity of its landscape. Freshwater ecosystems have suffered from an increasing population and the associated development pressures. One of the most valuable natural resources of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia is its freshwater resource, contained by an abundant wellspring and clear rivers. Blatačko Lake
Blatačko Lake is a natural lake 21 kilometers to the north-east of Konjic, in Konjic municipality, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The lake is a central feature of the natural & cultural-historical ensemble - cultural landscape - designated as National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Location and description The lake is located in close proximity to Blace village (1,215 m) on a karstic plateau of the Bjelašnica mountain, on the very edge of the Rakitnica canyon practically hanging over it at 1,156 meters a.s.l. Bjelašnica
Bjelašnica ( sr-cyrl, Бјелашница, ) is a mountain in central Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is to the southwest of Sarajevo, bordering Mount Igman. Bjelašnica's tallest peak, by which the mountain group got its name, rises to an elevation of . Other notable peaks are Krvavac (), Mali Vlahinja (), and Hranisava (). The Bjelašnica range is bordered by the Rakitnica in the south, the Neretva in the west, Mount Igman in the north-east and Mount Ivan in the north-west. Only at 20 minutes distance of Sarajevo, it is a tourist attraction for hiking and skiing. Bjelašnica was, in certain areas, the site of extensive combat during the 1992–95 Siege of Sarajevo and particular areas pose a high mine risk. There are numerous trails set up and maintained by local mountain clubs that lead to the bald peaks higher up. Konjic
Konjic ( sr-Cyrl, Коњиц) is a city and municipality located in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located in northern Herzegovina, around southwest of Sarajevo. It is a mountainous, heavily wooded area, and is above sea level. The municipality extends on both sides of the Neretva River. Lukomir
Lukomir ( sr-cyrl, Лукомир) is a village in Konjic municipality, in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It consists of two settlements: Donji (Lower) and Gornji (Upper) Lukomir. Gornji Lukomir Gornji Lukomir is known for its touristic potential and heritage. It is the highest and most remote village in the entire country. Characteristics Lukomir sits at an altitude of 1,495 m. on the Bjelašnica mountain. Stećci originating from the 14th and 15th century exist at the village and suggest that it was inhabited for hundreds of years. Treskavica
Treskavica ( sr-cyrl, Трескавица) is a mountain range in Bosnia and Herzegovina, situated in Trnovo municipality just south of city of Sarajevo. Mala Ćaba (Đokin Toranj) peak at 2088 m (6850 ft.), which makes Treskavica the tallest of all the mountains circling Sarajevo, and only some 300 m shorter than the tallest mountain in the country. On clear days with good weather, climbers can see far into the distance, up to Montenegro and the Adriatic Sea. Visočica (mountain)
Visočica ( sr-cyrl, Височица) is a mountain range in central Bosnia and Herzegovina. Geologically, Visočica is part of the Dinaric Alps and formed largely of secondary and tertiary sedimentary rock, mostly limestone and dolomite. Due to subterranean non-porous geological layers, the typical karst characteristics of the nearby Herzegovina mountains are relatively absent in Visočica, resulting in enough water sources, even at heights around 1500–1700 m. Springtime lakes, though, tend to dry out soon towards the summer. Some smaller streams source from these mountains as tributaries to its bordering rivers: the Ljuta in the east, the Rakitnica on its northern and western slopes and the Neretva towards the south. Bregava
The Bregava ( sr-cyrl, Брегава) is a sinking river in Bosnia and Herzegovina that passes through the town of Stolac. It is a left tributary of the Neretva river. The river Bregava and its buildings - bridges, mills and stamping mills over the river - constitutes the backbone of the urban layout of Stolac. It passes through two waterfalls in Stolac, one which is natural and the other artificial, and continue its way through the Bregava canyon leading to Badanj Cave. It is famous for its pure blue colour, like the Neretva river which passes through Mostar. Many natural beaches are spread along the river.
