Rajkamal Studios
Rajkamal Kalamandir was a noted film production company and studio in Mumbai. It was established by V. Shantaram in 1942, after he left Prabhat Films. The studio produced films both in Hindi and Marathi, and it was best known for (1946), ''Amar Bhoopali'' (1951), (1955), ''Do Aankhen Barah Haath'' (1957), ''Navrang'' (1959) and ''Pinjra (film), Pinjra'' (1972). In its heyday, Rajkamal was one of the most sophisticated studios of the country. As of 2019, the studio had spawned over 2,000 films. History Prabhat Films was founded in Kolhapur, in 1929, towards the end of the silent films' era, by the V. Shantaram and V.G. Damle. The studio later shifted to Pune; here Shantaram directed notable films ''Amrit Manthan (1934 film), Amrit Manthan'' (1934) and ''Kunku'' (''Duniya Na Mane'', Hindi) in 1937. Prabhat Films
Prabhat Film Company (popularly known as Prabhat Films) was an Indian film production company and studio facility founded in 1929 in Kolhapur. It was established by filmmaker V. Shantaram, along with Vishnupant Govind Damle, Keshav Rao Dhaibar, S. Fatelal, and S. V. Kulkarni. The company gained prominence during the transition from Silent film, silent films to Sound film, talkies and was recognised for its technical excellence and socially conscious storytelling. In 1933, the company moved to Pune, where it established its own studio. Over 24 years, Prabhat Films produced 45 films in Marathi language, Marathi and Hindi. During the advent of talkies in India, Prabhat Films, along with Kolkata's New Theatres, stood out for its artistic achievements and socially relevant themes. Apna Desh (1949 Film)
''Apna Desh'' (Our Country) is a 1949 Hindi social drama film set against the backdrop of Partition and directed by V. Shantaram for his Rajkamal Kalamandir banner. The story was written by Diwan Sharar and Keshavrao Date. Sharar also wrote the screenplay and dialogue along with acting in the film. Music was by S. Purshottam and lyrics were by Diwan Sharar and Mirza Ghalib. The cast included Pushpa Hans, Umesh Sharma, Sudha Apte, Chandrashekhar, Manmohan Krishna, Keshavrao Date, Krishna Goel, Diwan Sharar, Parshuram and Satish Vyas. Jhanjhaar
''Jhanjhaar'' (Fire) is a 1987 Hindi social drama film directed by V. Shantaram. Made under Rajkamal Kalamandir banner it was a V. Shantaram Productions film. It had music by Kalyanji Anandji. The film starred Sushant Ray (Shantaram's grandson), with Padmini Kolhapure, and the rest of the cast included Yunus Parvez, Sudhir Pandey and Ranjana Deshmukh (niece of Hindi film actress Sandhya who was V. Shantaram's wife). Ranjana's career came to a halt when she met with a car accident on the way to the shooting of this film in Bangalore. Culminating the end of a career that "spanned" nearly seventy years in Indian cinema, ''Jhanjhaar'' was Shantaram's last released film, and a commercial failure at the box-office. '' Jal Bin Machhli Nritya Bin Bijli'' () is a 1971 Bollywood romance film directed by V. Shantaram, with Sandhya and Abhijeet as leads, along with Vatsala Deshmukh and Dina Pathak. ''Do Aankhen Barah Haath'' () is a 1957 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by V. Shantaram, who also starred. It is considered to be one of the classics of Hindi cinema and is based on humanistic psychology. It won a Silver Bear at the 8th Berlin International Film Festival and a Golden Globe Award in the ''Samuel Goldwyn International Film Award for best film produced outside of the United States'' category. The film is also remembered for the song "Aye Maalik Tere Bande Hum", sung by Lata Mangeshkar and written by Bharat Vyas. The inspiration for this movie was a real experiment conducted by Maurice Frydman, who refused to have his name credited at the end of the film. ''Surang'' () is a 1953 film directed by V. Shantaram for his Rajkamal Kalamandir banner. The story and dialogue were by Vinod Kumar with music by Shivram Krishna and lyrics by Shewan Rizwi. The actor Chandrashekhar came into prominence with his role of a miner in the film. The rest of cast included Shashikala, Sheila Ramani, Vinod Kumar, Ulhas and Vikas.
