Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Yussuff Izzuddin Shah Ghafarullahu-lah (Jawi script, Jawi: ; 19 April 1928 – 28 May 2014) was Sultan of Perak from 1984 until his death in 2014, the ninth Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King of Malaysia), from 1989 to 1994, and the 5th Lord President of the Supreme Court, from 1982 to 1984. The child of a royal father and a commoner mother, he grew up in Perak, Malaysia. During school he played field hockey, subsequently playing for the Perakian team. Sultan Sir Idris Murshidul Azzam Shah Ibni Almarhum Raja Bendahara Alang Iskandar Marhum Teja ( Jawi: ; 19 June 1849 − 14 January 1916) was the 28th Sultan of Perak. Perak at that time was part of the British-administered Federated Malay States. His rule was marked by Perak joining the Federated Malay States, a federation of four protected states in the Malay Peninsula, including Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang, established by the British government in 1895, which lasted until 1946. Sultan Abdul Jalil Karamatullah Nasiruddin Mukhataram Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris Murshidul Azzam Shah Rahmatullah KCMG (23 April 1868 – 26 October 1918) was the 29th Sultan of Perak. Perak at the time was part of the British-administered Federated Malay States. Life Born on 23 April 1868, he was the eldest son of Sultan Idris Murshidul Azzam Shah, by his first wife, Raja Nuteh Aishah who was the daughter of Sultan Yusuf of Perak. Reign Raja Abdul Jalil ascended to the Perak throne in 1916 following the death of his father. Death Sultan Abdul Jalil's reign lasted 2 years and 10 months. He died on 26 October 1918 at age 50 and was interred next to his father at the Al-Ghufran Royal Mausoleum in Bukit Chandan. He was conferred the posthumous title of Marhum Radziallah. Early life and education Raja Yussuf was born on 15 January 1890 at Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar, Perak. He was the eldest son of Sultan Abdul Jalil Nasiruddin Mukhataram Shah. Raja Yussuf was educated at Hogan School (later changed to Clifford School), Kuala Kangsar. He was appointed Raja Di Hilir in 1919 and became Raja Bendahara in 1921.
