Rachel Sánchez
Rachel Sánchez Pérez (born 9 January 1989 in Pinar del Río) is a Cuban volleyball player who competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Career In 2008, she was a middle-blocker in the Cuban team that finished fourth in the Volleyball at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's tournament, Olympic tournament. With her Cuban team Ciudad Habana at the Liga Nacional 2011, Sánchez won the MVP award and the championship. Sánchez moved to the Kazakh League for the 2013/14, playing with Zhetyssu Almaty. Sánchez won the bronze medal at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship, 2015 FIVB Club World Championship, playing with the Swiss club Voléro Zürich. Pinar del Río is the capital city of Pinar del Río Province, Cuba. With a population of 191,081 (2022), it is the List of cities in Cuba, 10th-largest city in Cuba. The women's tournament in volleyball at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held at Capital Indoor Stadium and Beijing Institute of Technology Gymnasium from 9 to 23 August 2008. The twelve competing teams were split equally into two pools of six teams. Each team played all other teams in their pool with the winning team gaining two points and the losing side earning one point. The top four teams from each pool progressed through to the quarterfinals. The rest of the tournament was a single-elimination bracket, with a bronze medal match held between the two semifinal losers.
