Raboso (grape)
Raboso is a red wine grape grown primarily in the eastern part of Veneto. It is also called Raboso Piave, from the name of a river near where it is grown. It produces deep-colored wine, with notably high levels of grape tannins, tannin and medium alcohol content and high acid. The name ''raboxo'' in the native Venetian language means "angry", because angry is the sensation in the mouth when this wine is drunk young. Raboso was in the past the most cultivated grape variety of eastern Veneto; Venetian navigators called it ''vin de viajo'', "wine of travel", because it was the most resistant to aging and transport. Its popularity decreased in the 20th century, and today the vineyards of Raboxo are just 1–2% of the total amount of vineyards in Veneto. Marzemina bianca is a white Italian wine grape variety that is grown in the Veneto (wine), Veneto region of northeastern Italy. Ampelographers believe that the grape is a natural crossing (vine), crossing of the Trentino wine grape Marzemino and the Soave wine grape Garganega. This parent-offspring relationship between Marzemina bianca and Marzemino makes the variety distinct from grapes like Pinot blanc and Grenache blanc which are other color mutations of Pinot noir and Grenache, respectively. In viticulture, the yield is a measure of the amount of grapes or wine that is produced per unit surface of vineyard, and is therefore a type of crop yield. Two different types of yield measures are commonly used, mass of grapes per vineyard surface, or volume of wine per vineyard surface. The yield is often seen as a quality factor, with lower yields associated with wines with more concentrated flavours, and the maximum allowed yield is therefore regulated for many wine appellations. Units and conversions In most of Europe, yield is measured in hectoliters per hectare, i.e., by the volume of wine. Black Muscat (or Muscat Hamburg) is a red ''Vitis vinifera'' grape variety derived from the crossing of the Schiava Grossa and Muscat of Alexandria by Seward Snow, Head Gardener to Earl de Grey at Wrest Park, Bedfordshire UK in 1850, according to the Vitis International Variety Catalogue. It is known under a variety of local names such as '' Golden Hamburg, and Black Hamburg'' in the US; ''Muscat de Hambourg (or Hamburgh)'' in France; ''Moscato di Amburgo'' in Italy; and ''Muscat Gamburgskiy'' in Russia and former Soviet Union countries.
