Rabindra Bharati University
Rabindra Bharati University is a public research university in Kolkata, India. It was founded on 8 May 1962, under the Rabindra Bharati Act of the Government of West Bengal in 1961, to mark the birth centenary of the poet Rabindranath Tagore. It is located at the Tagore family home, Jorasanko Thakur Bari. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Performing Arts and Visual Arts under the Faculty of Fine Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and other subjects under the Faculty of Arts. The current interim Vice-Chancellor of the university is Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, former Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. Banani Ghosh
Banani Ghosh (died 7 June 2023) was an Indian Bengali musician, primarily known as an exponent of Rabindra Sangeet, but also specializing in the music of Atulprasad Sen, Rajanikanta Sen and others. Biography Ghosh was born in Mymensingh in present-day Bangladesh, her father Prafulla Krishna Ghose was also a musician and poet, and editor of a children's magazine. She was trained in Hindustani classical music and at Shantiniketan with the noted Rabindra Sangeet exponent Kanika Banerjee. Her voice was so similar to her gurus that to some she is known as (the second "mohar", after the Kanika's popular moniker). Ajoy Chakrabarty
Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty (born 25 December 1952) is a Hindustani classical vocalist, composer, lyricist and an exponent of the Patiala-Kasur gharana. He was awarded with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India in 2020 and the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India in 2011. Early life Ajoy Chakrabarty was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. He was raised with his brother in Shyamnagar. His younger brother, Sanjay Chakrabarty, is a lyricist and composer. Anup Ghoshal
Anup Ghoshal (1944/1945 – 15 December 2023) was an Indian playback singer and composer in Hindi and other vernacular Indian films, especially Bengali-language. He was known in his native Bengal primarily as one of the foremost artists of the golden age of Nazrulgeeti (c. 1930s–1970s). Biography Anup Ghoshal was born in 1944 or 1945 to Amulya Chandra Ghoshal and Labanya Ghoshal. His mother encouraged his singing by arranging for his musical training at age 4. His first performance took place soon after, when he sang for a children's programme, Shishu Mahal, from All India Radio, Kolkata. Subhaprasanna
Subhaprasanna Bhattacharjee is an Indian artist, born in Kolkata in 1947. He graduated from the Indian College of Arts ( Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata) in 1969. He was an active member of the Calcutta Painters group. He married to artist Shipra Bhattacharya. Subhaprasanna was the student of the famous painter Debdoot Sheet. Benazir Salam
Benazir Salam is an Indian classical dancer from Bangladesh. Career Benazir is the daughter of Md. Abdus Salam and Kohinoor Salam. She began her dance career at the dance school of ''Abdul Hasib Panna'' called ''Nikkon Shilpi Goshthi'' in 1983 in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. She was considered the national child of the years 1986, 1988 and 1989 through a competition organized by the Shishu Academy of Bangladesh. Chitresh Das
Chitresh Das (Devanagari: ) (9 November 1944 – 4 January 2015) was a classical dancer of the North Indian style of Kathak. Born in Calcutta, Das was a performer, choreographer, composer and educator. He was instrumental in bringing Kathak to the US and is credited with having established Kathak amongst the Indian diaspora in America. In 1979, Das established the Chhandam School of Kathak and the Chitresh Das Dance Company in California. In 2002, he founded Chhandam Nritya Bharati in India. John Felix Raj is the a professor of economics at St. Xavier's University, Kolkata (SXUK), India. He is a Jesuit priest of the Calcutta province of the Society of Jesus.
