Rabia Akyürek Varıcı (born Rabia Akyürek; 10 February 1999) is a Turkish wheelchair basketball player. She is part of the Turkey women's national wheelchair basketball team. Club career Akyürek started playing wheelchair basketball in 2013 with the initiative of her physical education teacher. She plays as the only female member in the Pendik Bld Anadolu Yakası SK in Istanbul. Akyürek plays with disability class 2.0. International career Akhyürek played for the Turkey women's natioanal under-25 wheelchair basketball team at the 2019 Women's U25 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship in Suphanburi, Thailand. She is a member of the Turkey women's national wheelchair basketball team. She played at the European Wheelchair Basketball Championship in 2019 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, 2021 in Madrid, Spain, and in 2023 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. 2 point player and 2.5 point player is a disability sport classification for wheelchair basketball. People in this class have partial trunk control when making forward motions. The class includes people with T8-L1 paraplegia, post-polio paralysis and amputations. People in this class handle the ball less than higher-point players. They have some stability issues on court, and may hold their wheel when trying to one hand grab rebounds. The class includes people with amputations. Amputees are put into this class depending on the length of their stumps and if they play using prosthetic legs. Classification into this classes has four phases. A spinal cord injury (SCI) is damage to the spinal cord that causes temporary or permanent changes in its function. It is a destructive neurological and pathological state that causes major motor, sensory and autonomic dysfunctions. Symptoms of spinal cord injury may include loss of muscle function, sensation, or autonomic function in the parts of the body served by the spinal cord below the level of the injury. Injury can occur at any level of the spinal cord and can be ''complete'', with a total loss of sensation and muscle function at lower sacral segments, or ''incomplete'', meaning some nervous signals are able to travel past the injured area of the cord up to the Sacral S4-5 spinal cord segments. The 2023 IWBF Women's European Championship was the 19th edition of the European Wheelchair Basketball Championship. It took place from 11 to 18 August 2023 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The wheelchair basketball tournament was part of the first edition of the European Para Championships, a quadrennial multi-sport event that is to take place each pre-Paralympic year.
