RED-Tabara
Resistance for Rule of Law in Burundi (French language, French: ''Résistance pour un État de Droit au Burundi'', Abbreviation: RED-Tabara) is a Burundian tutsi rebel militia that was formed in 2015 in the wake of the Burundian unrest (2015–2018), political crisis in the country. The group opposes the political control of the National Council for the Defense of Democracy – Forces for the Defense of Democracy and former president Pierre Nkurunziza and is allied with a number of other opposition groups, including the Popular Forces of Burundi. Since February 12, 2016, Melchiade Biremba has been the leader of the group. In an interview to Jeune Afrique, Biremba explained the goals of the organization: While many members of the group were former members of Alexis Sinduhije, Alexis Sinduhije's Movement for Solidarity and Democracy, both Sinduhije and Biremba deny any connection between RED-Tabara and the party. Alexis Sinduhije
Alexis Sinduhije (born 5 May 1967) is a Burundian journalist and politician. After founding Radio Publique Africaine during the Burundi Civil War, Sinduhije received a CPJ International Press Freedom Award and was named to the Time 100, ''Time'' 100 list of most influential people. In 2007, he left journalism to run for president, but was arrested in 2008 on a charge of "insulting the president," Pierre Nkurunziza, drawing protests on his behalf from the U.S., U.K., and Amnesty International. He was found not guilty and released in 2009. The film "Kamenge, Northern Quarters" follows Sinduhije before, during, and after his incarceration. Popular Forces Of Burundi
The Popular Forces of Burundi (, known by the acronym FPB) is a Burundian rebel militia, active in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Formed amid the political unrest in 2015, the group opposed the government of Pierre Nkurunziza and was referred to as the Republican Forces of Burundi (''Forces républicaines du Burundi'', or Forebu) until it was renamed in August 2017. Forebu was formed on 23 December 2015 following a failed military coup against Nkurunziza's government in May 2015 and a subsequent period of unrest. The group recruited members from the ex-soldiers purged from the Burundian Army in the aftermath of the coup, many of whom had fled into the eastern Congo.
