R. C. Kannangara
Richard Charles Kannangara (15 June 1920 – 14 October 1946) was a Ceylonese tea plantation owner and politician. On 3 March 1936 Kannangara was elected to the 2nd State Council of Ceylon representing Morawaka. Kannangara defeated the sitting member, Dr. S. A. Wickramasinghe, of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party by a margin of 2,910 votes. Kannangara was superintendent and owner of a tea plantation in Deniyaya, and his campaign was backed by Sir Don Baron Jayatilaka, the Leader of the House and Minister for Home Affairs. The Lanka Sama Samaja Party, often abbreviated as LSSP ( literally: Lanka Equal Society Party, Sinhala: ලංකා සම සමාජ පක්ෂය, Tamil: லங்கா சமசமாஜக் கட்சி), is a major Trotskyist political party in Sri Lanka. It was the first political party in Sri Lanka (then British Ceylon), having been founded in 1935 by Leslie Goonewardene, N. M. Perera, Colvin R. de Silva, Philip Gunawardena and Robert Gunawardena. Deniyaya
Deniyaya is a small town located towards the south of Sri Lanka. It is located in Matara District of the Southern Province. It is surrounded by the Sinharaja rainforest, and the climate is relatively cool. The main source of income is tea cultivation, however people also engage in vegetable cultivation. Sir Don Baron Jayatilaka, KBE ( Sinhala:ශ්රීමත් දොන් බාරොන් ජයතිලක; 13 February 1868 – 29 May 1944) known as ''D.B. Jayatilaka'' was a Sri Lankan Sinhalese educationalist, statesmen and diplomat.
