Qinngorput
Qinngorput is a district of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. It is located near to the east-northeast of Nuuk Centrum, south of Nuuk Airport, approximately outside of the city centre. History The Qinngorput area was a popular camping and hunting site for many years before it was incorporated into Nuuk in 2005. Being the most recent district incorporated with the city, it attracts younger people and the focus is on families with school-aged children. This is reflected in the demographics; it has on average the youngest population of all Nuuk districts. Qinngorput does not have many inhabitants, less than 200, but the number of buildings is steadily growing. When finished the area will consist of 1200 apartments, with a planned potential capacity of 10.000 inhabitants, if needed. The latest expansion of the district is along the south-eastern shores of Malenebugten, with 300 new apartments to be handed over in August 2013. Nuup Bussii
Nuup Bussii A/S is a bus company in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, providing public transport services for the city. As of 2014 Nuup Bussii has 31 employees, operating 16 buses with a distinct yellow color, as well as five other small vehicles. History Prior to the establishment of public services, the ground transport in the city was operated by private entrepreneurs. The volatility and alleged unreliability of the services prompted the former Nuuk Municipality to regulate the traffic, and establish a public transportation company, overseen by the municipal authorities. Nuup Bussii was then founded on 26 September 1980. In 2012 the buses transported more than 2 million passengers around the city of Nuuk. Since 2009 Nuup Bussii provides city transport services in Nuuk for the new Sermersooq municipality, linking the town centre with the outlying districts and neighborhoods of Nuussuaq, Qinngorput, as well as Qernertunnguit in Quassussuup Tungaa. Nuuk Airport
Nuuk Airport ( kl, Mittarfik Nuuk; da, Godthåb Lufthavn; is an airport serving Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. The airport is a technical base and focus city for Air Greenland, the flag carrier airline of Greenland, linking the capital with several towns in western and south-western part of the country, including the airline hub at Kangerlussuaq Airport. With connections to Iceland, Nuuk Airport is also one of six international airports in Greenland but serves only destinations within Greenland and Iceland. International connections are made with flights to either Keflavík International Airport in Iceland or Kangerlussuaq Airport. Blok P
Blok P, in Nuuk, was the largest residential building in all of Greenland. It contained around 320 apartments and it is said that approximately 1% of the total population of the entire island lived in the building. The building was demolished on 19 October 2012. History The building was built and erected in 1965–1966 as part of the Danish parliament Folketinget's programme since 1953 to modernize and urbanize the Greenlandic infrastructure by moving people away from the coastal settlements which were deemed "unprofitable, unhealthy and unmodern". When it was built it was the largest building construction in the Kingdom of Denmark. The size and floor plan of the apartments were entirely unsuitable for the Inuit lifestyle, with narrow doorways making it difficult, or sometimes impossible to enter and exit wearing thick cold weather clothing, and common European style wardrobes were too small to store fishing gear. Nuussuaq (district)
Nuussuaq is a district of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, It is located in the northern part of the city, west and southwest of Nuuk Airport, approximately outside the city center. History The district was established in the late 1970s, and has rapidly expanded since then, becoming the most populated neighborhood home to the majority of apartment buildings in the city and approximately 6.000 people. After Qinngorput, it is the newest district of Nuuk, expanding northwards towards the airport. Sermitsiaq (newspaper)
''Sermitsiaq'' is one of two national newspapers in Greenland. It is named after the mountain Sermitsiaq. The newspaper was published for the first time May 21, 1958, as a Kalaallisut-language alternative to the Danish-language newspaper ''Mikken''. The two magazines were printed separately, with Mikken on Saturdays and Sermitsiaq on Mondays for about six months, until Mikken was published for the last time on 22 November the same year. ''Sermitsiaq'' was first printed in both Danish and Kalaallisut the week before ''Mikken'' closed down. ''Sermitsiaq'' was a local newspaper distributed only in Nuuk city until around 1980 when the newspaper became national. The newspaper became increasingly political in the period around 1980, since Greenland was granted home rule in 1979.
