Quireboys
The Quireboys are an English rock band formed in 1984 in London, with strong ties to Newcastle. Originally known as The Choirboys, then The Queerboys, billed as The London Quireboys in the United States and Canada, settling at last with their current name. History 1985–1989: Formation Vocalist Jonathan Gray (commonly referred to as just 'Spike') moved from Newcastle upon Tyne to London when he was 17 years old and met guitarist Guy Bailey in a bar. By the mid-1980s, the two decided to form a rock and roll band, the name chosen for the group was originally 'The Choirboys' taken from the 1977 movie of the same name, but they soon changed it to the Queerboys. The Queerboys started to build up a following, playing at the Marquee Club. The band's drummer Paul Hornby soon left to join Dogs D'Amour, which contained future friends of the Quireboys, he was replaced by Nick Connell (known as Cozy). Spike (musician)
Jonathan Francis Gray (born 4 February 1966), known professionally as Spike, or Spike Gray, is an English singer-songwriter and founding member of the British rock band the Quireboys, for whom he performs as lead singer and has released 13 studio albums. He is recognised for his raspy voice which led to comparisons with Rod Stewart. As a solo performer, Spike has collaborated with Tyla of The Dogs D'Amour, and released five solo studio albums. In March 2022, fellow Quireboys members claimed that Spike had been fired from the band, which Spike disputed. Spike proceeded to form a new version of the band, with his ex-bandmates changing their name. Career Jonathan Gray was born in Newcastle upon Tyne and grew up in Northern England. ''A Bit of What You Fancy'' remains the Quireboys' most commercially successful album. Luke Morley
Luke Morley (born 19 June 1960 in Camberwell, London, England) is the guitarist, chief songwriter and producer for the hard rock band Thunder from 1989 to present (with a break from 1999–2002, and 2009–2011). Previous to that he was a member of 1980s group, Terraplane who subsequently became Thunder. Early life Luke was born on the 19th of June 1960 in Camberwell, London, and attended Haberdasher Aske's Hatcham College. There he met Danny Bowes for the first time, in September 1971. They became friends three years later and formed the band Nuthin' Fancy, and spent four years touring in South London before forming Terraplane. Ginger Wildheart
Ginger Wildheart (born David Leslie Walls; 17 December 1964), sometimes known simply as Ginger, is an English rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He began his professional career as a guitarist in the Quireboys, but is best known as the founder and leader of the Wildhearts. In addition, he has released numerous solo albums and has been involved in many other musical projects. Career Early career Ginger played in many bands including South Shields band the Cups and Beki Bondage's band the Bombshells. He was a member of the English band the Quireboys from 1987 until 1989. Jim Cregan
James Cregan (born 9 March 1946) is an English rock guitarist and bassist, best known for his associations with Family, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, and Rod Stewart. Cregan is a former husband of the singer Linda Lewis and worked with her as a record producer. He has also worked with The Quireboys, Glass Tiger, Katie Melua and formed Farm Dogs with Bernie Taupin. Career Cregan was born in Yeovil, Somerset, to Irish parents. When he was 14, he joined The Falcons, formed whilst he was at Poole Grammar School. After developing his next band ''The Disastisfied Blues Band'', Cregan briefly joined with future Traffic frontman Dave Mason, in ''Julian Covay and the Machine'' in 1967 and moved on to join the rock and soul band ''The Ingoes'' as a vocalist and guitarist. The Tokyo Dragons were an English, London-based hard rock band. They achieved success in the UK and worldwide after releasing two successful albums and touring with Nashville Pussy, The Quireboys, Status Quo, Do Me Bad Things and Winnebago Deal. History The band was formed by friends Steve Lomax (guitar/vocals), Mal Bruk (guitar/vocals) and Phil Martini (drums/vocals) with Ade Easily (bass). Jason Bonham
Jason John Bonham (born 15 July 1966) is an English drummer. He is the son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. Since his father's death in September 1980, he has performed with the surviving three members of Led Zeppelin on several occasions, including the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert at O2 arena in London in December 2007. He has also done extensive work as a session musician, led the group Bonham in the 1980s and '90s, and is a member of the supergroup Black Country Communion. Christopher Kenneth Kimsey (born 3 December 1951) is an English musician, engineer, and record producer, best known for his work with the Rolling Stones. Career Born in Battersea, London, England, Kimsey began his career in 1967 at Olympic Studios as a tea boy, before working his way up to assistant engineer. Kimsey engineered albums by The Rolling Stones, Ten Years After, Spooky Tooth, Emerson Lake & Palmer and others. Marquee Club
The Marquee Club was a music venue in London, England, that opened in 1958 with a range of jazz and skiffle acts. It was a small and relatively cheap club, in the heart of London's West End of London, West End. It was the location of the first live performance by the Rolling Stones on 12 July 1962. Origins The club was established by Harold Pendleton, an accountant whose love of jazz had led him to become secretary of the National Jazz Federation. Originally it was located in the Marquee Ballroom in the basement of the Academy 1-2-3 (cinema), Academy Cinema in Oxford Street, where dances had been held since the early 1950s. Its decor was designed by Angus McBean with a striped canopy to imitate a Marquee (tent), marquee. Bob Rock
Robert Jens Rock (born April 19, 1954) is a Canadian record producer, recording engineer and musician. In 1976, Rock joined Little Mountain Sound Studios, starting out as a recording engineer and sound mixer. During his time there, he collaborated with producer Bruce Fairbairn, engineering and mixing several influential rock albums, including Loverboy's '' Get Lucky'' (1981), Bon Jovi's '' Slippery When Wet'' (1986), and Aerosmith's '' Permanent Vacation'' (1987). Rock and singer-songwriter Paul Hyde formed the band Payola$ in 1978. Payola$ were best known for the single "Eyes of a Stranger", from their 1982 album '' No Stranger to Danger'', an album that won the band four Juno Awards. The Wildhearts
The Wildhearts are an English Rock music, rock band, formed in 1989 in Newcastle upon Tyne. The band's sound is a mixture of hard rock and melodic pop music, often described in the music press as combining influences as diverse as the Beatles and 1980s-era Metallica. The Wildhearts achieved several top 20 singles and two top 10 albums in Britain, though they also faced difficulties with record companies and many internal problems often relating to drugs and depression. Much of the band's early career was affected by bitter feuds with their record company, East West Records, East West. Dogs D'Amour
The Dogs D'Amour are an English bluesey hard rock band formed in London in 1983. Over the years the band has had various line-ups, the only constant being vocalist Tyla. Their music has been described as a mixture of the Rolling Stones, the Faces and glam punk. Their 1989 release, '' A Graveyard of Empty Bottles'', reached No. 16 on the UK Albums Chart while the single "Satellite Kid" reached No. 26 on the UK Singles Chart. In 1991, the band broke up onstage, before reforming briefly in the early 1990s for the release of their sixth studio album '' More Unchartered Heights of Disgrace''. After this, however, the most famous incarnation of the band ceased to exist.
