Quincy (comic Strip)
''Quincy'' is an American syndicated newspaper comic strip published from July 13, 1970 to October 4, 1986, created and produced by cartoonist Ted Shearer. The series, about an African-American boy being raised by his grandmother in Harlem, was one of the earliest mainstream comic strips to star an African American in the lead role, following '' Dateline: Danger!'' (1968-1974) and '' Luther'' (1969-1986). Another predecessor, ''Wee Pals'' (1965- ), features an African-American among an ensemble cast of different races and ethnicities. Westchester County
Westchester County is a county located in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of New York, bordering the Long Island Sound and the Byram River to its east and the Hudson River on its west. Morrie Turner
Morris Nolton Turner (December 11, 1923 – January 25, 2014) was an American cartoonist. He was creator of the strip ''Wee Pals'', the first American syndicated strip with a racial integration, racially integrated cast of characters. Biography Turner was raised in Oakland, California, the youngest child of a Pullman porter father and a homemaker and nurse mother. He attended Cole Elementary School and McClymonds High School in Oakland and Berkeley High School (California), Berkeley High School. Turner first started drawing at age 10, drawing what he heard while listening to radio shows. He later moved onto cartoons during high school, ultimately deciding at the age of 14 that he wanted to become a professional cartoonist. During this time, he also worked on the school newspaper, and was elected to the student council, though widespread racism greatly hindered any benefits he gained as a result. Screentone
Screentone is a technique for applying textures and shades to drawings, used as an alternative to hatching. In the conventional process, patterns are transferred to paper from preprinted sheets. It is also known by the common brand names Zip-A-Tone (1937, now defunct), Chart-Pak (1949), and Letratone (1966, from Letraset Letratone: Registration Certificate – Manufacturer-supplied first use date). A dry transfer screentone sheet, sometimes informally known as a "tone", consists of a flexible transparent backing, the printed texture, and a wax adhesive layer. The sheet is applied to the paper, adhesive down, and rubbed with a stylus (also called a ''burnishing tool'') on the backing side. The backing is then peeled off, leaving the ink adhered to the paper where pressure was applied.
