Salvador Sánchez Cerén (; born 18 June 1944) is a Salvadoran politician who served as the 42nd President of El Salvador between 1 June 2014 and 1 June 2019. He took office on 1 June 2014, after winning the 2014 presidential election as the candidate of the left-wing Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN). He previously served as Vice President under President Mauricio Funes from 2009 to 2014. He was also a guerrilla leader in the Civil War and is the first and only ex-rebel to serve as president. Alfonso Quijada Urías (born 8 December 1940), is a El Salvador, Salvadoran poet and an author. Quijada has published various poems such as the anthology "De aquí en adelante" (San Salvador), in conjunction with the poets José Roberto Cea, Manlio Argueta, Tirso Canales and Roberto Armijo. Many of his works deal with the effects of war and the realities of urban life in Central America. 2024 Salvadoran General Election
General elections will be held in El Salvador in February and March 2024. In the first round on 4 February 2024, Salvadorans will elect the president, vice president, and all 84 deputies of the Legislative Assembly. In the second round on 3 March 2024, they will elect all 20 deputies to the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) and all 262 mayors of the country's municipalities. The Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front ( es, Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional, FMLN) is a left-wing political party in El Salvador. Juan Manuel de Jesús Flores Cornejo (born 15 October 1965), nicknamed "El Chino" ( Spanish for "The Chinese One"), is a Salvadoran politician who has served as the secretary-general of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) since 2024. Darwin Adelso Cerén Delgado (born 31 December 1989) is a Salvadoran professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Primera División club Águila and captains the El Salvador national team. He is the most capped player in El Salvador history. Club career Juventud Independiente Cerén began his professional career with Juventud Independiente in 2009.
