Queen Anne is a List of neighborhoods in Seattle, neighborhood in northwestern Seattle, Washington (state), Washington. Queen Anne covers an area of , and has a population of about 28,000. It is bordered by Belltown, Seattle, Belltown to the south, Lake Union to the east, the Lake Washington Ship Canal to the north and Interbay, Seattle, Interbay to the west. The neighborhood is built on a hill, now named Queen Anne Hill, which became a popular spot for the city's early economic and cultural elite to build their mansions. Its name is derived from the Queen Anne style architecture in the United States, Queen Anne architectural style in which many of the early homes were built. Lower Queen Anne is a List of neighborhoods in Seattle, neighborhood in northwestern Seattle, Washington, at the base of Queen Anne, Seattle, Queen Anne Hill. While its boundaries are not precise, the toponym usually refers to the shopping, office, and residential districts to the north and west of Seattle Center. The neighborhood is connected to Upper Queen Anne—the shopping district at the top of the hill—by an extremely steep section of Queen Anne Avenue N. known as the Queen Anne Counterbalance, Counterbalance, in memory of the Cable car (railway), cable cars that once ran up and down it. Westlake is a neighborhood in Seattle, Washington. It was named after its location on the western shore of Lake Union. It is a relatively narrow neighborhood, there being only a few blocks between the shoreline and its western limit at Aurora Avenue N., beyond which is Queen Anne.
