Quantztown, Ontario
Quantztown is an unincorporated community located in the city of Markham, Ontario, Canada, near McCowan Road and 16th Avenue. It is named for German settler Melchior Quantz (1749–1827), who arrived in 1794 along with William Berczy and other settlers. Development As early as the 1990s, the area was still at the edge of residential development, with land north of 16th Avenue still agricultural. Since the late 1990s, however, the land has given way to single family homes. Home development began in the early 1980s along Longwater Chase in Unionville's Bridle Trail, and completed in the early 2000s along the west side of Manhattan Drive. Since Markham has been quickly growing, there often is confusion as to where Quantztown really is. For example, west on Carlton Road, past McCowan Road there is a park area named "Quantztown Park", though the park itself actually lies outside of the actual area designated Quantztown. York Regional Police
The York Regional Police (YRP; ) is the police service of the Regional Municipality of York, Ontario, Canada. YRP was formed in 1971 from the police forces maintained by the nine municipalities which amalgamated into York Region at the time. The force employs over 1,500 sworn members and 618 unsworn members as of 2015. William Berczy
William von Moll Berczy (December 10, 1744 – February 5, 1813) was a German-born Upper Canada pioneer and painter. He is considered one of the co-founders of the Town of York, Upper Canada, now Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Biography Berczy was born in Wallerstein, Swabia, Electorate of Bavaria (part of the Holy Roman Empire and now in Germany) as a son of the ''Wirklicher Hofrat'' (Albrecht Theodor Moll) and Johanna Josepha Walpurga Moll (née Hefele). Berczy was originally named Johann Albrecht Ulrich Moll, but following marriage changed his name. He studied at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna and at the University of Jena in Saxony. His early career was spent in several European countries, including Poland, Switzerland, and Italy. National Topographic System
The National Topographic System or NTS is the system used by Natural Resources Canada for providing general purpose topographic maps of the country. NTS maps are available in a variety of scales, the standard being 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 scales. The maps provide details on landforms and terrain, lakes and rivers, forested areas, administrative zones, populated areas, roads and railways, as well as other human-made features.
