Q School 2018 – Event 2
The 2018 Q School was a series of three snooker tournaments held at the start of the 2018–19 snooker season. An event for amateur players, it served as a qualification event for a place on the professional World Snooker Tour for the following two seasons. The events took place in May 2018 at the Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton-upon-Trent, England with a total 12 players qualifying via the three tournaments. Format The 2018 Q School consisted of three events. The three events had 202 entries competing for 12 places on the main tour, four players qualifying from each of the three events. All matches were the best of seven frames. Event 1 The first 2018 Q School event was held from 14 to 19 May 2018 at the Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton-upon-Trent, England. Q School (snooker)
The Q School is an amateur snooker competition which serves as the qualification school for the World Snooker Tour. Overview Q School is established in 2011 as an attempt to streamline the qualification process and is held annually before the start of the professional season, where amateurs and ex-professionals who dropped out of the top 64 in Snooker world rankings, world rankings in previous seasons can compete for a two-year tour card to play on the Main Tour. It replaced the amateur tournament International Open Series, the former second-tier snooker series organised by the English Association of Snooker and Billiards (EASB). In 2022, a Q School branch in Bangkok was established for entrants from the Asia-Oceania region. 2 qualifying places were awarded to the winners whilst discontinuing qualification through Standings (sports), Order of Merit in Q School Europe. Craig Steadman
Craig Steadman (born 14 July 1982) is an English former professional snooker player. Career Early career Steadman began his professional career by playing Challenge Tour in 2001, at the time the second-level professional tour. He reached the quarter final at the 2006 IBSF World Championships in Amman, Jordan, where he was eliminated by Manan Chandra 6–3. He reached the final of the 2008 European Snooker Championships but was defeated 7–6 by David Grace. He first entered Main Tour for the 2009–10 season, after finishing the 2008/09 PIOS rankings on the rank 8. On 23 May 2009 he won the English Team Championship with Manchester. 2011/2012 season He made it to the main draw of a ranking event for the first time in 2012, by beating Mike Dunn 5–3 in the wildcard round for the German Masters. Kuldesh Johal
Kuldesh Johal (born 25 September 1980) is an English former professional snooker player. He competed on the main tour during the 2008/2009 and 2010/2011 seasons. Career Born in 1980, Johal played in Challenge Tour qualifying events in the early 2000s, without any success. He won two Pontin's International Open Series events during the 2007/2008 season, defeating James Leadbetter, Matthew Couch, Jeff Cundy, Stuart Carrington and Andrew Pagett in Event 2 and Gary Wilson, Jamie Jones, Liam Highfield, Stephen Craigie and Simon Bedford in Event 6, winning a place on the main tour for the 2008/2009 season. Simon Bedford
Simon Bedford (born 8 February 1976) is an English former professional snooker player. Career Bedford's best performance in a professional ranking event was to qualify for the 1998 World Championship; he beat Gary Wilkinson 10–9, before losing 6–10 to Steve Davis. He also reached the last 32 of the European Open in 2004 and the Grand Prix in 2008, beating two-time World Champion Mark Williams en route. He qualified to return to the Main Tour for the 2008–09 season by finishing fourth in the 2007/2008 Pontins International Open Series rankings. Fang Xiongman
Fang Xiongman (, born 9 April 1993) is a Chinese people, Chinese former professional snooker player. Career Fang began competing at professional events in 2012, which included Players Tour Championship, Asian Tour events as well as wildcard rounds of ranking tournaments. His most notable win as an amateur came at the 2015 Shanghai Masters, where he defeated Jamie Jones (snooker player), Jamie Jones 5–1 in the wildcard round, but went on to get eliminated 5–2 by Stuart Bingham in the last 32. Ashley Carty (born 17 July 1995) is an English professional snooker player. Career At age 17, he reached the final of the 2013 EBSA European Under-21 Snooker Championship, losing 0–6 to James Cahill. He won the 2014 English Under-21 Championship, defeating Joe O’Connor 8–3 in the final. Andy Lee (; born 27 November 1980), also known as Lee Chun Wai, is an English and Hong Kong former professional snooker player. Career He qualified for the main tour for the 2008–09 season by beating Adam Duffy 6–3 in the 2008 English Pro Ticket Tour Play-offs. Kishan H. Hirani (born 2 June 1992) is a Welsh retired professional snooker player. Thor Chuan Leong
Thor Chuan Leong (; born 24 March 1988), better known on the main tour as Rory Thor, is a Malaysian professional snooker player. Career Thor, based in Penang, Malaysia represented his country at the 2006 & 2010 Asian Games and in the 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games and 2013 Southeast Asian Games, in the Southeast Asian Games he won bronze in the snooker singles and doubles and gold in the six red snooker singles. In 2014, Thor won the ACBS Asian Snooker Championship in May, beating Taiwan's Hung Chuang Ming 7–3 in the final. Mitchell Mann
Mitchell Dennis Mann (born 26 December 1991) is an English professional snooker player. Career Junior Mann first played snooker aged 9, after being forced to quit football after a diagnosis of Legg–Calvé–Perthes syndrome, a rare disease which rots the hip bone in young boys. The main highlight of his junior career was winning the Junior Pot Black in 2007, beating Jack Lisowski 76–23 in the final. Adam Duffy
Adam Duffy (born 30 March 1989) is an English former professional snooker player. Duffy qualified for the 2011–12 professional Main Tour as one of four semi-finalists from the third and final 2011 Q School event. Career Debut season As a new player on the tour Duffy would need to win four qualifying matches to reach the main stage of the ranking event tournaments.
