The South West Queensland Pipeline (SWQP) is a bidirectional natural gas transmission pipeline in southern Queensland. It was built in 1996 to carry gas from the Ballera gas plant to the gas trading hub at Wallumbilla. The western end was later extended in 2008 by to Moomba. The original section is also known as the Ballera to Wallumbilla Pipeline System, and the extension as the Queensland/South Australia/New South Wales (QSN) Link. In 2014 the combined system was reconfigured to be bidirectional. The pipeline has intersections with several other gas transmission pipelines along its route. At Moomba, it can deliver gas to the Moomba to Sydney Pipeline and Moomba Adelaide Pipeline System, plus bidirectional flow to/from the Moomba Gas Hub and trade point. At the Ballera gas plant it has bidirectional interchange with the Carpentaria Gas Pipeline. Natural Gas
Natural gas (also called fossil gas or simply gas) is a naturally occurring mixture of gaseous hydrocarbons consisting primarily of methane in addition to various smaller amounts of other higher alkanes. Low levels of trace gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide, and helium are also usually present. Moomba Adelaide Pipeline System
The Moomba Adelaide Pipeline System is a natural gas pipeline delivering gas from the Cooper Basin gas wells near Moomba to Adelaide, with spur pipelines to Angaston and Whyalla. It can also receive gas from Southeastern Queensland through the QSN Link pipeline owned by APA Group. The pipeline was developed by the Government of South Australia and commenced operation on 28 November 1969. It was privatised in 1995 and bought by Queensland Investment Corporation, the parent company of Epic Energy in April 2013. The pipeline system now consists of a total of of high pressure gas pipelines, including of laterals. The main lateral spurs are the one to Port Pirie and Whyalla and the one to Angaston. Eromanga is an outback town and locality in the Shire of Quilpie, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Eromanga had a population of 119 people. Carpentaria Gas Pipeline
The Carpentaria Gas Pipeline is a natural gas pipeline connecting the gas fields to the city of Mount Isa in Queensland, Australia. It is long between the Ballera gas plant in the Eromanga Basin in southwestern Queensland and Mount Isa, a significant mining community in northwestern Queensland. It was originally built to carry gas from the gas fields in the Eromanga Basin to the industrial areas around Mount Isa. Since 2018 it can also operate to carry gas from the Northern Territory via the Northern Gas Pipeline south to markets along the eastern seaboard of Australia. Ballera Gas Plant
Ballera gas plant is a natural-gas processing facility in the locality of Durham in the southwestern Queensland, Australia. It is operated by Santos Limited. The gas plant processes gas from approximately 130 wells in 45 gas fields in the Eromanga Basin. Processed gas is transmitted via the 755 km South West Queensland Pipeline to the trading hub at Wallumbilla (east of Roma) in southeastern Queensland, via the QSN Link extension of that pipeline to Moomba (180 km southwest, in northeastern South Australia) and via the Carpentaria Gas Pipeline to Mount Isa (800 km north). It is served by the Ballera Airport as workers fly in and out. Crude oil is not processed at Ballera, but at Jackson, 65 km southeast. The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) was set up by the Council of Australian Governments through the Ministerial Council on Energy in 2005. The AEMC was established by the ''Australian Energy Market Commission Establishment Act 2004'' (SA), and commenced in July 2005.
