QE2 (album)
''QE2'' is the sixth studio album by Mike Oldfield, released in 1980 on Virgin Records. The album was named after the ocean liner '' Queen Elizabeth 2''. The album contained both original Oldfield compositions as well as two cover versions of pieces recorded by other bands (" Arrival" by ABBA and " Wonderful Land" by The Shadows). Though only reaching number twelve on the German album charts, the album became the best-selling album of 1981 in Germany. Album analysis The longest tracks on the album are "Taurus I" and the title track, "QE2", lasting 10 minutes and 7 minutes respectively. Some years later The Shadows responded to Oldfield's cover of "Wonderful Land", by releasing a cover of Oldfield's " Moonlight Shadow". The cover songs were released as singles. Mike Oldfield
Michael Gordon Oldfield (born 15 May 1953) is an English retired musician, songwriter and producer best known for his debut studio album ''Tubular Bells'' (1973), which became an unexpected critical and commercial success. Though primarily a guitarist, Oldfield played a range of instruments, which included keyboards and percussion, as well as vocals. "Moonlight Shadow" is a song written and performed by English multi-instrumentalist Mike Oldfield, released as a single in May 1983 by Virgin Records, and included on his eighth album, ''Crises'', of the same year. The vocals were performed by Scottish vocalist Maggie Reilly, who had collaborated with Mike Oldfield since 1980. It is Oldfield's most successful single, reaching number one on numerous charts around Europe. In the UK, it reached number four during a nineteen-week chart run and was subsequently listed by the Official Charts Company as the 29th best-selling single of 1983. Björn Kristian Ulvaeus (; born 25 April 1945) is a Swedish musician, singer, songwriter, and producer best known as a member of the musical group ABBA. Göran Bror Benny Andersson (; born 16 December 1946) is a Swedish musician, composer and producer best known as a member of the pop group ABBA and co-composer of the musicals ''Chess (musical), Chess'', ''Kristina från Duvemåla'', and ''Mamma Mia! Plimsoll Line
The load line, also known as Plimsoll line, indicates the legal limit to which a ship may be loaded for specific water types and temperatures in order to safely maintain buoyancy, particularly with regard to the hazard of Wind wave, waves. The load line is a waterline that corresponds to the maximum Draft (ship), draft of the ship, thus yet another name, load waterline. The Cunard Line ( ) is a British shipping and an international cruise line based at Carnival House at Southampton, England, operated by Carnival UK and owned by Carnival Corporation & plc. Since 2011, Cunard and its four ships have been registered in Hamilton, Bermuda. Bruce Parry Presents ''Amazon - Tribe - Songs for Survival'' is a double album released by Kensaltown Records in support of a tribal peoples charity. Background The album was released in support of Survival International, the human rights organisation for tribal peoples. The themes of the album are life around the Amazon River and other remote tribal areas. These topics are covered in the Bruce Parry television series ''Tribe'' and ''Amazon''. All of the music on the album is exclusive and was written for the project. Many of the songs on the record contain samples recorded by Bruce Parry whilst living with tribal communities. It is a concept album based on the 1986 science fiction novel ''The Songs of Distant Earth'' by Arthur C. Clarke. The album reached No. 24 on the UK Albums Chart. Background In 1993, Oldfield completed his Tubular Bells II 20th Anniversary Tour, 1992–1993 tour to promote his previous album, ''Tubular Bells II'' (1992), his first concert tour since 1984.
