Pseudopimelodidae
The Pseudopimelodidae are a small family (about 40 species) of catfishes known as the bumblebee catfishes or dwarf marbled catfishes. Some of these fish are popular aquarium fish. Taxonomy This family was formerly a subfamily of Pimelodidae. Pseudopimelodidae is a monophyletic group. Previously, the superfamily Pseudopimelodoidea was sister to superfamilies Sisoroidea + Loricarioidea. However, some evidence has shown this family, along with Pimelodidae, Heptapteridae, and '' Conorhynchos'', may form a monophyletic assemblage, which contradicts the hypothesis that the former family Pimelodidae that included these families is a polyphyletic group. Distribution The Pseudopimelodidae are restricted to fresh water in South America, from the Atrato River in Colombia to Argentina in the Río de la Plata The Río de la Plata (, "river of silver"), also called the River Plate or La Plata River in English, is the estuary formed by the confluence of the Uruguay River and the Paraná ...

Catfish Families
Catfish (or catfishes; order Siluriformes or Nematognathi) are a diverse group of ray-finned fish. Named for their prominent barbels, which resemble a cat's whiskers, catfish range in size and behavior from the three largest species alive, the Mekong giant catfish from Southeast Asia, the wels catfish of Eurasia, and the piraíba of South America, to detritivores (species that eat dead material on the bottom), and even to a tiny parasitic species commonly called the candiru, ''Vandellia cirrhosa''. Neither the armour-plated types nor the naked types have scales. Despite their name, not all catfish have prominent barbels or "whiskers". Members of the Siluriformes order are defined by features of the skull and swimbladder. Catfish are of considerable commercial importance; many of the larger species are farmed or fished for food. Many of the smaller species, particularly the genus ''Corydoras'', are important in the aquarium hobby. Many catfish are nocturnal,

Lophiosilurus Alexandri
''Lophiosilurus alexandri'' is a species of catfish ( order Siluriformes) of the family Pseudopimelodidae, and the only species of the monotypic genus ''Lophiosilurus''. Distribution and habitat This fish originates from the São Francisco River in Brazil. Here, it is commonly known as ''pacamã''. It prefers lentic habitats. This species has been introduced into the Doce River basin, but its effect on the native species has not been studied. Description and ecology This fish reaches in total length and has a maximum published weight of . It has an extremely large mouth, earning it the name ''Pac-Man catfish''. ''L. alexandri'' is a sedentary species. This species has adhesive eggs and the male displays parental care. ''L. alexandri'' represents an example of parallel evolution, sharing a similar morphology and lifestyle to species of the distantly related '' Chaca'' catfish. Relationship to humans ''L. alexandri'' is considered threatened by Brazil's Ministry of the Enviro ...

Pimelodidae
The Pimelodidae, commonly known as the long-whiskered catfishes, are a family of catfishes ( order Siluriformes). Taxonomy The family Pimelodidae has undergone much revision. Currently, it contains about 30 genera and about 90 recognized and known but unnamed species. Wikipedia lists 109 species in this family. The low-eye catfish (previously family Hypophthalmidae), and thus the genus '' Hypophthalmus'', which contains four species, was reclassified with the pimelodids. This family previously included fish that are now classified under Pseudopimelodidae (previously subfamily Pseudopimelodinae) and Heptapteridae (previously subfamily Rhamdiinae). This family also previously included '' Conorhynchos conirostris'', currently ''incertae sedis''. However, a molecular analysis has shown unequivocal support for monophyly of the individual families and the genus ''Conorhynchos'' into a clade called Pimelodoidea, including Pimelodidae + Pseudopimelodidae and Heptapteridae + ''Conorhynch ...

Cruciglanis
''Cruciglanis'' is a genus of catfish ( order Siluriformes) of the family Pseudopimelodidae. It contains a single recognized species, ''Cruciglanis pacifici''. Heptapteridae
The Heptapteridae, or three-barbeled catfishes, are a family of catfish that originate from the Americas. Most species are restricted to South America, but '' Imparfinis lineatus'', '' Nemuroglanis panamensis'' and '' Pimelodella chagresi'' are native to Panama, and ''Rhamdia'' species occur as far north as Mexico. The name Heptapteridae is derived from Greek, ''hepta'' meaning seven and ''pteron'' meaning fin. The diversity of this family is poorly known, and many species are yet to be described. So far, some 211 species have been described. This family is equivalent to the previously recognized Rhamdiinae, a subfamily of the family Pimelodidae. However, molecular evidence shows this family is a part of the superfamily Pimelodoidea along with the Pimelodidae, Pseudopimelodidae, and '' Conorhynchos''. The skin of these fish is usually naked (scaleless). They exhibit three pairs of barbels. They have a large adipose fin, and their caudal fin is deeply forked. However, no extern ...

The basin occupies an area of and has an average annual precipitation of >5,000 mm/year that reaches up to 12,000 mm/year in the upper basin. Flowing through a narrow valley between the Cordillera and coastal range, it has only short tributaries, the principal ones being the Truandó, the Sucio, and the Murrí rivers.
