The Prosecutor-General of Sweden ( sv, Riksåklagaren) is the department head for the Swedish Prosecution Authority responsible for the daily operations, the highest-ranked prosecutor in the country, and the only public prosecutor in the Supreme Court. The Office of the Prosecutor-General ( sv, Riksåklagarens kansli) is responsible for legal development, the agency's operations in the Supreme Court, and administrative tasks. The Legal Department of the Prosecutor-General ( sv, rättsavdelningen) has an overall responsibility for the operations in the Supreme Court and key international issues. Swedish Prosecution Authority
The Swedish Prosecution Authority ( sv, Åklagarmyndigheten) is the principal agency in Sweden responsible for public prosecutions. It is a wholly independent organisation; not dependent on the courts or the police, and although it is organized under the Ministry of Justice it operates independently and any ministerial interference in cases is unconstitutional. It is headed by the Prosecutor-General of Sweden. History The Swedish prosecution service underwent a major reform in 1965. Prior to this, the police and prosecution were organized under the same roof. Following the reform, the Swedish police, the courts and the prosecution service became clearly defined, separate entities. Magnus Sjöberg
Karl Gustaf Magnus Sjöberg (born 26 September 1927) is a Swedish jurist. He served as the Prosecutor-General of Sweden from 1978 to 1989 and as President of the Supreme Administrative Court of Sweden from 1990 to 1994. Early life Sjöberg was born on 26 September 1927 in Klinte, Sweden, the son of the Gustaf Sjöberg, a provost, and his wife Elsa (born Kloetzen). He received a Candidate of Law degree from Uppsala University in 1953. Career Sjöberg did his clerkship from 1953 to 1956. Sjöberg served as an extra legal clerk (''fiskal'') in the Svea Court of Appeal in 1956 and '' tingsrätt'' secretary in the Nedansiljan Judicial District from 1957 to 1959. Crime in Sweden is defined by the Swedish Penal Code ( sv, Brottsbalken) and in other Swedish laws and statutory instruments. Over the past decades, the number of reported crimes in Sweden has increased slightly. This fact is due to several different factors such as a significant increase in the Swedish population, which naturally results in more crime and convicted criminals, as well as people in general being more likely to report crimes to the authorities. Holger Axel Gustaf Romander (6 March 1921 – 25 January 2020) was a Swedish civil servant. He served as the Prosecutor-General of Sweden from 1966 to 1978 and as the National Police Commissioner from 1978 to 1987. Career Romander was born on 6 March 1921 in Boden, Sweden, the son of lieutenant colonel Nils Romander and his wife Ester (née Steinbeck). He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Stockholm in 1943 and a Candidate of Law degree in 1946. The Supreme Court of Sweden ( sv, Högsta domstolen, abbreviated ''HD'') is the supreme court and the third and final instance in all civil and criminal cases in Sweden.
