Preston Gates & Ellis, LLP, also known as Preston Gates, was a law firm with offices in the United States, China and Taiwan. Its main office was in the IDX Tower in Seattle, Washington. In 2007 the firm ceased to exist, merging with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham to form K&L Gates. The "Gates" in the firm's name refers to William H. Gates Sr., father of Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Gates retired from the firm in 1998. History Formation In 1883, Harold Preston, born 1858 in Illinois, the son of Brig. Gen. William Neukom
William Horlick Neukom (born 1942) is an American former managing general partner of the San Francisco Giants baseball team ownership group. He held this position from May 2008 to December 31, 2011 and he was the managing partner when the Giants won the World Series in 2010, the first World Series win since the team had moved to California in 1958. Prior to holding this position, he was list of Presidents of the American Bar Association, President of the American Bar Association in 2007–08. Lloyd Meeds
Edwin Lloyd Meeds (December 11, 1927August 17, 2005) was an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1965 to 1979. He represented the second district of Washington as a Democrat. Early years Born in Dillon, Montana, Meeds moved with his family to Monroe, Washington, northeast of Seattle, in 1944. He graduated from Monroe High school in 1946, served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1947, and graduated from Everett Junior College in 1950. Meeds owned and operated a gas station until 1954, when he returned to school. He earned his law degree from Gonzaga University in Spokane in 1958, and passed the bar; he was a prosecutor, briefly in Spokane County, then in Snohomish County. Shidler McBroom Gates And Lucas
Shidler is a city in Osage County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 328 in the 2020 census, a decline from the figure of 441 recorded in 2010. History Shidler was founded in December 1921 and named for Eugene S. Shidler, a Pawhuska banker and rancher. The town grew rapidly to a population of approximately 5,000 due to the discovery of petroleum nearby (see Whizbang) and the arrival of the Osage Railway (one of the Muskogee Roads) in February 1922. In that year, Shidler had 19 oil-well supply businesses and six plants manufacturing gasoline. Shidler had a reputation for lawlessness, with bank and highway robberies common. By the late 1920s, the oil boom had subsided and Shidler began to lose population. Shidler's population in the 1930 census was 1,177 and the downward trend continued. Jim Ellis (King County Activist)
James Reed "Jim" Ellis (August 5, 1921–October 25, 2019) was a municipal bond lawyer and civic activist based in King County, Washington. Although he never sought or held elective office, at the time of his death the ''Seattle Times'' described him as "one of ashington'smost visionary and successful civic leaders." Among the many projects for which he was a key leader were cleaning up Lake Washington, establishing King County Metro (the county's public transit system), and a series of ballot initiatives known collectively as Forward Thrust; he also founded the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust.
