Collective Soul
Collective Soul is an American rock band originally from Stockbridge, Georgia. Now based in Atlanta, the group consists of lead vocalist Ed Roland, rhythm guitarist Dean Roland, bassist Will Turpin, drummer Johnny Rabb, and lead guitarist Jesse Triplett. Formed in 1992, the original lineup consisted of the Roland brothers, Turpin, guitarist Ross Childress, and drummer Shane Evans. Collective Soul released their ''Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid'' album on the independent label Rising Storm Records in 1993. The band went from obscurity to popularity that year after the album's lead single " Shine" received regional radio play. The album was then re-released in 1994 by the major label Atlantic Records; thus, "Shine" became a national hit as it peaked at No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock and No. 4 on the Mainstream Top 40 charts. "December" is a song by American alternative rock band Collective Soul, released on the band's 1995 eponymous album. Written by singer/guitarist Ed Roland, it peaked at number 20 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and number one on the Album Rock Tracks chart for nine weeks, surpassing their prior hit " Shine" by one week; it also reached number two on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, making it their highest-ranking single on that particular listing. Canadian rock music charts (established June 11, 1995) publishes a weekly alternative rock music chart under the name ''Alternative 30.'' RPM charts On June 11, 1995, Canadian music magazine ''RPM'' began publishing a weekly alternative rock music chart under the name ''Alternative 30''. The song which held the number-one spot on this first chart was "More Human than Human" by White Zombie. The chart took a break from December 14, 1998, to April 11, 1999, and returned on April 12 under the new name ''Rock Report''. " Free Girl Now" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers debuted at the top of this newly named chart. On October 25, 1999, the chart made a slight change to the name ''Top 30 Rock Report''. ''RPM'' ( and later ) was a Canadian music-industry publication that featured song and album charts for Canada. The publication was founded by Walt Grealis in February 1964, supported through its existence by record label owner Stan Klees. ''RPM'' ceased publication in November 2000. ''RPM'' stood for "Records, Promotion, Music". The magazine's title varied over the years, including ''RPM Weekly'' and ''RPM Magazine''. "Big Shiny Tunes 2" is the second edition of the MuchMusic compilation series, '' Big Shiny Tunes''. The album had been accompanied by heavy advertising in Canada. It is the best-selling album of the series, having sold 1,233,000 copies. Commercial performance ''Big Shiny Tunes 2'' debuted at #1 on the Canadian Albums Chart, with 128,000 units sold in its first week. By March 1998, the album was certified Diamond by the CRIA for sales of 1 million units. ''Big Shiny Tunes 2'' went on to sell 1,233,000 copies before going out of print. ''Disciplined Breakdown'' is the third studio album by American post-grunge band Collective Soul. It was first released on March 11, 1997. The album was recorded during a difficult time in the band's career, when they were going through a long lawsuit with their former management, and they also recorded the album in a cabin-like studio due to lack of money. Although not as successful as their first two albums, ''Disciplined Breakdown'' did earn Collective Soul a million-selling album (platinum status) in the US, and charted at #16 on the top 200 Album Chart. Two songs also charted on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100: " Precious Declaration" (US #65), also #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks for four weeks; and "Listen" (US #72), also #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks for five weeks. Much (an abbreviation for its full name MuchMusic) is a Canadian English language specialty channel owned by BCE Inc. through its Bell Media subsidiary that airs programming aimed at teenagers and young adults. MuchMusic launched on August 31, 1984, under the ownership of CHUM Limited, and was originally focused on music programming, including blocks of music videos and original series focusing on Canadian musicians. In the years since its acquisition by Bell, Much has cancelled the majority of its music programming due to budget and staffing cuts. A lead single (also known as a debut single) is the first single to be released from a studio album by an artist or a band, usually before the album itself is released and also occasionally on the same day of the album's release date.
