Portland is an unincorporated community in Fremont County, Colorado, United States. Description The town is located along State Highway 120 in Fremont County, Colorado and is east of Florence. History The community was one of three factory towns built surrounding the Portland Cement plant, now Holcim. The other two factory towns nearby are Concrete and Cement. A post office called Portland was established in 1900, and remained in operation until 1952. Ouray County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,874. The county seat is Ouray. Because of its rugged mountain topography, Ouray County is also known as the Switzerland of America. History Ouray County was formed out of San Juan County on 18 January 1877, the first county designated by the newly formed Colorado State Legislature. Fremont County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2020 census, the population was 48,939. The county seat is Cañon City. The county is named for 19th-century explorer and presidential candidate John C. Frémont. Florence is a part of the Cañon City, CO Micropolitan Statistical Area and the Front Range Urban Corridor. History Florence was built as a transportation center, with three railroads including a small railroad depot for the trains that hauled coal from the neighboring towns of Rockvale and Coal Creek. Portland Cement
Portland cement is the most common type of cement in general use around the world as a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar, stucco, and non-specialty grout. It was developed from other types of hydraulic lime in England in the early 19th century by Joseph Aspdin, and is usually made from limestone.
