Polohy (, ; russian: Пологи, translit=Pologi) is a city in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine, currently under the control of the Russian Armed Forces. It serves as the administrative center of Polohy Raion. Population: . From 1928 to 1937, it carried the name of Chubarivka, after the Ukrainian Bolshevik revolutionary and Soviet politician Vlas Chubar. Polohy Raion ( uk, Пологівський район) is one of the 5 raions (districts) of Zaporizhzhia Oblast in southern Ukraine. The administrative center of the region is the town of Polohy. Population: . The district was established in accordance with the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine № 807-IX of July 17, 2020. It included: urban hromadas: Tokmak, Ukraine, Tokmatska, Huliaipole, Huliaipilska, Orikhiv, Orikhivska, Polohy, Polohivska, Molochansk, Molochanska and the following rural hromadas: Bilmatska, Komysh-Zoryanska, Rozivska settlements, Vozdvyzhivska, Malynivska, Smyrnovska, Malotokmachanska, Preobrazhenska, Voskresenska, Fedoralni territories. Vlas Chubar
Vlas Yakovlevich Chubar ( uk, Влас Якович Чубар; russian: Вла́с Я́ковлевич Чуба́рь) ( – 26 February 1939) was a Ukrainian Bolshevik revolutionary and a Soviet politician. Chubar was arrested during the Great Terror of 1937-38 and executed early in 1939. The top Communist Party official in Ukraine during the 1932-33 famine, Chubar was posthumously held culpable for those events by a Ukrainian court in 2010. Early career Chubar was from an ethnic Ukrainian peasant family. He was born in Fedorіvka, Yekaterinoslav Governorate, Russian Empire (now in Polohy Raion, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine). His parents were illiterate peasants who owned a small plot of land. He was arrested and beaten by gendarmes for belonging to a revolutionary group when he was 13 years old. Polina Semyonovna Zhemchuzhina (born Perl Solomonovna Karpovskaya; 27 February 1897 – 1 April 1970) was a Soviet politician and the wife of the Soviet foreign minister Vyacheslav Molotov. Zhemchuzhina was the director of the Soviet national cosmetics trust from 1932 to 1936, Minister of Fisheries in 1939, and head of textiles production in the Ministry of Light Industry from 1939 to 1948. In 1948, Zhemchuzhina was arrested by the Soviet secret police, charged with treason, and sent into internal exile, where she remained until after the death of Joseph Stalin in 1953. Vitaliy Antonovych Satskyi ( uk, Віталій Антонович Сацький) was a Ukrainian politician, director of Zaporizhstal, former metallurgist. He was a member of the Academy of Mining Sciences of Ukraine (1993), the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Ukraine, and the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. Career Born in village of Chubarivka (today Polohy), in 1954 Satskyi graduated a technological faculty of the Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute (today the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine) as engineer-metallurgist. Viktor Poltavets (artist)
Viktor Vasylyovych Poltavets ( uk, Віктор Васильович Полтавець; 1925 - 2003) was a Soviet and Ukrainian artist, Merited Art Worker of Ukraine (visual, 1974), National Artist of Ukraine (visual, 1984), member of the National Society of Artists of Ukraine (1952). Viktor Poltavets was born in Polohy (today Zaporizhia Oblast) on January 11, 1925. In 1950 he graduated from the Kharkiv Art Institute, now known as the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. Poltavets primarily specialized in painting and drawing. Among his awards are orders the Badge of Honour (1982), the Patriotic War (2000) as well as some medals. Poltavets is buried at the Baikove Cemetery, Kyiv. Russian Occupation Of Zaporizhzhia Oblast
The Russian occupation of Zaporizhzhia Oblast is an ongoing military occupation, which began on 24 February 2022, as Russian forces invaded Ukraine and began capturing the southern portion of Zaporizhzhia Oblast. On 26 February, the city of Berdiansk came under Russian control, followed by the Russian victory at Melitopol on 1 March. Russian forces also laid siege and captured the city of Enerhodar, home to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which came under Russian control on 4 March.
