Polish Left
The Polish Left ( pl, Polska Lewica) is a centre-left to left-wing political party in Poland. History Former Prime Minister Leszek Miller announced the formation of the Polish Left on September 20, 2007, because he was not on the list of Left and Democrats. In his announcement, Miller said that the new party would be a "true leftist" alternative to the LiD coalition. In 2007 election Leszek Miller started from Self-Defence of the Republic of Poland. The Polish Left party was formed when the Prime Minister and many other members of parliament withdrew from the Democratic Left Alliance, which Miller had headed for many years. His departure from the DLA also served as a public protest against the policies of party leaders, regarded by the protesters as not liberal enough. Democratic Left Alliance
The Democratic Left Alliance () was a social-democratic political party in Poland. It was formed in 9 July 1991 as an electoral alliance of centre-left parties, and became a single party on 15 April 1999. It was the major coalition party in Poland between 1993 and 1997, and between 2001 and 2005, from which came four Prime ministers: Józef Oleksy, Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz, Leszek Miller and Marek Belka. It then faded into opposition, shadowed by the rise of Civic Platform and Law and Justice. In February 2020, the party initiated a process to absorb the Spring party, choosing the name New Left ( pl, Nowa Lewica), and changing to a more modern logo. Since 1989, Poland has had a multi-party system, with numerous competing political parties. Individual parties normally do not manage to gain power alone, and usually work with other parties to form coalition governments. The transition from a mono-party Communist regime to liberal democracy and pluralism resulted in new political parties mushrooming in the early 1990s. The Left ( pl, Lewica) is a political alliance in Poland. Initially founded to contest the 2019 parliamentary election, the alliance now consists of the New Left and Left Together. It also originally consisted of Democratic Left Alliance and Spring until its merging to create the New Left, including the Polish Socialist Party that left the coalition in 2021. It is also supported by several minor left-wing parties including Your Movement, ''Yes for Łódź'', ''Urban Movement'', and the Polish Communist Party. 2019 Polish Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Poland on 13 October 2019. All 460 members of the Sejm and 100 senators of the Senate were elected. The ruling Law and Justice (PiS) retained its majority in the Sejm, but lost its majority in the Senate to the opposition. With 43.6% of the popular vote, Law and Justice received the highest vote share by any party since Poland returned to democracy in 1989. The turnout was the highest for a parliamentary election since the first free elections after the fall of communism in 1989. Self-Defence of the Republic of Poland ( pl, Samoobrona Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej, SRP) is a nationalist, populist, and agrarian political party and trade union in Poland. Its platform combines left-wing populist economic policies with religious conservative social policies. Founded by Andrzej Lepper in 1992, the party initially fared poorly, failing to enter the Sejm.
