The Pilchuck River ( lut, dxʷkʷiƛ̕əb) is a river in Snohomish County in the U.S. state of Washington. It is a tributary of the Snohomish River. The name is derived from Chinook Jargon ''pilpil'' ("blood", "red") and ''chuck'' ("water"), or "red water". Course The Pilchuck River originates in the Cascade Range. It flows generally west until it reaches Granite Falls, then it turns and flows south, passing by Lochsloy and Machias before emptying into the Snohomish River near Snohomish. Snohomish County Centennial Trail
The Snohomish County Centennial Trail is a rail trail in Snohomish County, Washington, connecting the cities of Snohomish, Lake Stevens, and Arlington to Skagit County along the corridor of Washington State Route 9. The trail, administered by Snohomish County Parks and Recreation, is on the former right-of-way of the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway and comprises a non-motorized trail and a equestrian trail. The first segment of the corridor was opened in 1989, the centennial of the statehood of Washington, and the final segment between Arlington and the Skagit County line was opened in 2013. Possession Sound
Possession Sound is part of Puget Sound, located in the U.S. state of Washington between Whidbey Island and the shoreline of Snohomish County approximately between the cities of Everett and Mukilteo. Possession Sound connects the main Puget Sound basin to the south with Saratoga Passage and Port Susan to the north. The Snohomish River flows into Possession Sound at Port Gardner Bay. Gedney Island, also called Hat Island, is located in Possession Sound. Possession Sound was named by George Vancouver. Machias is a census-designated place (CDP) in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,178 at the 2010 census. Machias was laid out in 1888, and named after Machias, Maine, the ancestral home of a first settler. A post office called Machias was established in 1892, and remained in operation until 1943.
