Pierre Kroll
Pierre Kroll (born 25 March 1958 in Gwaka, Belgian Congo) is a Belgian cartoonist and caricaturist. He is the nephew of architect Lucien Kroll. Belgian Congo
The Belgian Congo (french: Congo belge, ; nl, Belgisch-Congo) was a Belgian colony in Central Africa from 1908 until independence in 1960. The former colony adopted its present name, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), in 1964. Colonial rule in the Congo began in the late 19th century. King Leopold II of the Belgians attempted to persuade the Belgian government to support colonial expansion around the then-largely unexploited Congo Basin. Their ambivalence resulted in Leopold's establishing a colony himself. With support from a number of Western countries, Leopold achieved international recognition of the Congo Free State in 1885. By the turn of the century, the violence used by Free State officials against indigenous Congolese and a ruthless system of economic exploitation led to intense diplomatic pressure on Belgium to take official control of the country, which it did by creating the Belgian Congo in 1908. Caricature
A caricature is a rendered image showing the features of its subject in a simplified or exaggerated way through sketching, pencil strokes, or other artistic drawings (compare to: cartoon). Caricatures can be either insulting or complimentary, and can serve a political purpose, be drawn solely for entertainment, or for a combination of both. Lucien Kroll
Lucien Kroll (13 March 1927 – 1 August 2022) was a Belgian architect. With his wife, Simone Kroll, he founded the Atelier de Architecture Simone & Lucien Kroll. They are considered to be the founders—as early as 1960—of participatory architecture, a consultative and immersive approach to the design of the built environment. Kroll's idiosyncratic style, closely tied to the participatory design process, was the antithesis of the modernist movement. He completed more than 100 projects. Biography Kroll was born in Brussels on 13 March 1927. His father was an engineer and his mother, a nurse. In 1945, Lucien Kroll enrolled at the Saint-Luc School in Liège where he befriended Charles Vandenhove. Numa Sadoul (born 7 May 1947, Brazzaville, French Equatorial Africa (now Republic of Congo) is a French writer, actor, and director, who has been a resident of France since 1966. Biography Numa Sadoul was born on May 7, 1947, in Brazzaville, Congo, where his father, Numa Sadoul, was Governor of Overseas France. He lived for 19 years in Africa - Congo, Gabon, Djibouti - and Madagascar, before settling in the South of France in 1966, when his father retired. Since that time, he has never left the Côte d´Azur.
