Peter Lamborn Wilson (October 20, 1945 – May 23, 2022) was an American anarchist author and poet, primarily known for his concept of Temporary Autonomous Zones, short-lived spaces which elude formal structures of control. During the 1970s, Wilson lived in the Middle East, where he explored mysticism and translated Persian texts. Starting from the 1980s he wrote (under the pen name of ''Hakim Bey'') numerous political writings, illustrating his theory of "ontological anarchy". His style of anarchism has drawn criticism for its emphasis on individualism and mysticism, as did some of his writings where he defended pederasty. Peter John Wilson (1869–1918) was an Australian architect, known for a number of buildings in Western Australia (most notably the Melbourne Hotel). Biography Early life Peter John Wilson was born on 4 May 1869 in Melbourne, the second son of Peter John Wilson (1840-1911), a lawyer, and Elizabeth Jane (née McGuire). He had four siblings. They grew up at Boa Vista, a family residence in Kensington, a suburb of Melbourne. His mother died in June 1878, when he was nine years old. After his father remarried, to a woman named Mary, he had two additional half-siblings. They lived at Royal Park Villa in Melbourne. The family was hurt by the economic recession of the 1890s. Peter Cecil Wilson (8 March 1913 – 3 June 1984) was an English auctioneer and chairman of Sotheby's. Wilson's father was Sir Mathew Wilson, 4th Baronet of Eshton Hall, Gargrave, Yorkshire. He was educated at Eton College and at New College, Oxford. He married Helen Ballard in 1935 who he had met in Hamburg. They had two sons and she became a noted horticulturist after he became attracted to men. The marriage was dissolved in 1951 and they remained on good terms. He worked for British Intelligence during World War II, in London and Washington DC. He thought about taking this up as a career but decided to return to "Sotherbys" after the war. Piers Holt Wilson (known as Peter; January 1883 – 3 February 1956) was an Anglican bishop in the mid part of the 20th century. Early Years and Education Wilson was born in Redgrave Hall, Redgrave, Suffolk, England to George Holt Wilson and Lucinda James.
