Peter Malden Studd
Sir Peter Malden Studd (15 September 1916 – 22 June 2003) was an English cricketer and the 643rd Lord Mayor of London. Biography Peter Malden Studd was born 15 September 1916. Studd's father, Brigadier Malden A. Studd DSO MC, was ADC to King George VI during the early part of World War II. Sir Peter Studd was the Lord Mayor of the City of London between 1970–1971 and an executive of De La Rue, the banknote printing company; as a young man he was an outstanding cricketer, captaining both the Harrow and Cambridge teams. During his mayoralty was the re-opening of the transplanted London Bridge at Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The old bridge, which dated from 1831, had been sold by the City authorities for £1,025,000, and shipped to America to become the centrepiece of a new community. The Lord Mayor of London is the mayor of the City of London and the leader of the City of London Corporation. Priscilla "Scilla" Studd (''née'' Livingstone Stewart; 28 August 1864 – 15 January 1929) was a British Christian missionary and wife of Charles Studd. Life and career Born in Belfast, Ireland (modern-day Northern Ireland), Priscilla Stewart arrived in Shanghai in 1887 as part of The Hundred missionaries of the China Inland Mission and was one of a large party to arrive together. She was reported as being both Irish in her looks and in her spirit, with blue eyes and golden hair. After a while in Shanghai she moved with three other women to work inland at the city of Ta-Ku-Tang. Of her new-found calling she said, In China, after praying whilst kneeling in the snow, she became seriously ill with pneumonia, so much so that she sent for her then fiancé Charles Studd, who was himself recovering from an attack of pleurisy. George Brown Studd (20 October 1859 – 13 February 1945) was an English cricketer and missionary.
