John Carnie
John Alfred Carnie (30 March 1927 – 10 September 2009) was an Australian politician who represented the South Australian House of Assembly seat of Flinders from 1970 to 1973 and then in the upper house from 1975 to 1982. He represented the Liberal and Country League in the House of Assembly, but was heavily associated with Steele Hall's moderate Liberal Movement faction from 1972. He followed Hall in leaving the party when the Liberal Movement became a separate party in 1973, and was elected to the Legislative Council for the LM in 1975. Liz Penfold
Elizabeth Meryl Penfold (born 15 September 1947) is an Australian retired politician who represented the seat of Flinders in the South Australian House of Assembly for the Liberal Party from 1993 to 2010. She is a graduate of the Company Directors Course and is a registered lobbyist with the State Government. Prior to election into politics, her education included a Certificate in Real Estate Sales, Political Studies undertaken by correspondence from Papua New Guinea through the University of Queensland, and was a Classified Teacher from the Wattle Park Teachers College, Adelaide. Penfold is a fellow of the Flinders University of South Australia Foundation Inc. and Member of the Eyre Peninsula Agricultural Research Foundation as well as Patron of the Lower Eyre Peninsula She has also been a member of many economic, marine and arts organisations, and has participated in hospital and health fundraising. Flinders is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It is named after explorer Matthew Flinders, who was responsible for charting most of the state's coastline. It is a 58,901 km² coastal rural electorate encompassing the Eyre Peninsula and the coast along the Nullarbor Plain, based in and around the city of Port Lincoln and contains the District Councils of Ceduna, Cleve, Elliston, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Streaky Bay and Wudinna; as well as the localities of Fowlers Bay, Nullarbor and Yalata in the Pastoral Unincorporated Area. The seat was expanded in 2002 to include a western strip of land all the way to the Western Australia border.
