PeaceHealth is a not-for-profit health care system that owns and operates ten hospitals, and numerous clinics, in the Western United States. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, the organization has operations in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington, and was founded by the Catholic Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in 1976. History In 1890, nuns of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace moved to Fairhaven, Washington, from the convent in Newark, New Jersey, to establish a hospital for loggers. The order continued to build hospitals and in 1936 opened their first one in Oregon, Pacific Christian Hospital in Eugene. After continued growth, the Sisters formed a non-profit health care system in 1976, and in 1994 the name was changed to PeaceHealth. PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center is a 450-bed community hospital located in Vancouver, Washington. The hospital was founded in 1858. In 2010, the hospital had about 114,000 emergency department (ED) visits, 27,000 in-patient visits, and 3,000 child births. The ED is the busiest ER north of San Francisco on the west coast, and the birth center is the second busiest obstetrics unit in the Portland metropolitan area. Sacred Heart Medical Center At RiverBend
PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend is a 388-bed regional medical center. The hospital is located in Springfield, in the U.S. state of Oregon. Established in 2008, it is one of two Sacred Heart facilities in the Eugene-Springfield area owned by PeaceHealth. The new RiverBend facility is home to a 24-hour Level II trauma center including full medical/surgical care. The hospital also provides full women's and children's services, including labor and delivery, and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center University District is a hospital in Eugene, Oregon, United States. Originally called Sacred Heart Medical Center, its new name reflects its location near the University of Oregon and Northwest Christian University. It is one of two Sacred Heart facilities in the Eugene-Springfield area owned by PeaceHealth. The other facility, Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, is in Springfield. Pacific Christian Hospital
Pacific Christian Hospital was a hospital in Eugene, Oregon, United States. It was opened by Eugene Bible University (EBU) and International Bible Mission (IBM) at East 12th and Hilyard streets on March 17, 1924. The person behind this enterprise was Eugene Claremont Sanderson, who founded Eugene Divinity School (EDS) in 1895 across Alder Street from the hospital. EDS and EBU are now known as Bushnell University. The original hospital building was later remodeled and subsequently demolished. The facility is now known as PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center University District and is in the same location.
