Paul Boos (répétiteur)
Paul Boos (born June 2, 1958 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota) is an American dancer, ballet master, archivist, and répétiteur. He danced with New York City Ballet from 1977 until 1990 before becoming a guest teacher for the Royal Danish Ballet. In addition to teaching internationally, he is part of a select group of répétiteurs sanctioned by the Balanchine Trust to set the ballets of George Balanchine. Having previously served as Project Associate since 2016, in 2021, Boos was appointed to Director of the Video Archives for the George Balanchine Foundation. Early life and career Boos was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In a variation on the "Billy Elliot story", he started studying dance when his mother enrolled his two sisters in ballet class and was persuaded to sign him up as well. Jerome Robbins (born Jerome Wilson Rabinowitz; October 11, 1918 – July 29, 1998) was an American dancer, choreographer, film director, theatre director and producer who worked in classical ballet, on stage, film, and television. The Goldberg Variations (ballet)
''The Goldberg Variations'' is a ballet choreographed by Jerome Robbins to Bach's ''Goldberg Variations''. A plotless ballet, it starts with two performers dancing to the Theme, followed by the variations divided into two parts, with variations repeated as Bach had intended in the score. Robbins made the ballet for the New York City Ballet, and premiered on May 27, 1971, at the New York State Theater. ''Jewels'' is a three-act ballet created for the New York City Ballet by co-founder and founding choreographer George Balanchine. It premièred on Thursday, 13 April 1967 at the New York State Theater, with sets designed by Peter Harvey and lighting by Ronald Bates. ''Jewels'' has been called the first full-length abstract ballet. It has three related movements: ''Emeralds'', ''Rubies'', and ''Diamonds'' (usually separated by intermissions). ''Chaconne'' is a ballet made by New York City Ballet co-founder and ballet master George Balanchine to ballet music from Gluck's ''Orfeo ed Euridice'' (Vienna, 1762; Paris, 1774). The premiere took place Wednesday, 22 January 1976 at the New York State Theater, Lincoln Center, with lighting by Ronald Bates; Robert Irving conducted. ''Chaconne'' was danced in practice clothes at its premiere; Karinska's costumes were added in the spring season. Choreographer George Balanchine's production of Tchaikovsky's 1892 ballet ''The Nutcracker'' has become the most famous stage production of the ballet performed in the U.S. ( Mikhail Baryshnikov's production is the most famous television version, although it too originated onstage.) ''Who Cares?'' is a ballet choreographed by George Balanchine to songs by George Gershwin that were orchestrated by Hershy Kay. The ballet is split in two parts, the first danced by an ensemble, and the second focuses on four principal dancers. The Four Temperaments (ballet)
''The Four Temperaments'' or Theme and Four Variations (''The Four Temperaments'') is an orchestral work and ballet by Paul Hindemith. Although it was originally conceived as a ballet for Léonide Massine, the score was ultimately completed as a commission for George Balanchine, who subsequently choreographed it as a neoclassical ballet based on the theory of the four temperaments.
