Pat Metheny Group
The Pat Metheny Group was an American jazz band founded in 1977. The core members of the group were guitarist, composer and bandleader Pat Metheny; and keyboardist and composer Lyle Mays, who was in the group at its inception. Other long-standing members included bassist and producer Steve Rodby, from 1981 to 2010, and drummer Antonio Sanchez, from 2002 to 2010. Vocalist Pedro Aznar and drummer Paul Wertico were also long-time members. In addition to a core quartet, the group was often joined by a variety of other instrumentalists expanding the size to six or eight musicians. Lee's Summit
Lee's Summit is a city located within the counties of Jackson (primarily) and Cass in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. As of the 2020 census its population was 101,108, making it the sixth-largest city in both the state and in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Origin of name The "Town of Strother" (not to be confused with a town of the same name in Monroe County) was founded by William B. Howard in October 1865. He named it for his wife, Maria D. Strother, the daughter of William D. Strother formerly of Bardstown, Kentucky. Armando Marçal
Armando de Souza Marçal, better known as Marçalzinho (born 17 December 1956) is a Brazilian percussionist. Biography Marçal started in music at 14. As the son of Mestre Marçal (1930-1994) who operated the largest Brazilian samba school GRES Portela from 1978 to 1986, while his grandfather Armando Marçal was a famous samba composer and formed a famous samba duo together with Alcebíades Bide Barcelos. In United States Marcal worked with artists such as Pat Metheny and Paul Simon. In Brazil he worked alongside big names in Brazilian popular music, such as Gal Costa, Jorge Ben Jor, Veloso, John Bosco, Djavan, Vanessa da Mata, Chico Buarque, 'Blitz', Ivan Lins and Elis Regina. Jaco Pastorius
John Francis Anthony "Jaco" Pastorius III (; December 1, 1951 – September 21, 1987) was an American jazz bassist, composer and producer. He recorded albums as a solo artist and band leader and was a member of Weather Report from 1976 to 1981. He also collaborated with other artists, most notably Pat Metheny and Joni Mitchell. His bass playing employed funk, lyrical solos, bass chords, and innovative harmonics. As of 2017 he was the only electric bassist of seven bassists inducted into the ''DownBeat'' Jazz Hall of Fame, and he has been lauded as among the best electric bassists of all time. Pastorius suffered from drug addiction and mental health issues and, despite his widespread acclaim, over the latter part of his life he had problems holding down jobs due to his unreliability. Bright Size Life
''Bright Size Life'' is the debut album by Pat Metheny, released in 1976 on ECM. The album features Jaco Pastorius on bass and Bob Moses on drums. In 2020, the album was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry. Production and reception The songs for ''Bright Size Life'' were written when Metheny was living in Boston and teaching at the Berklee School of Music. Metheny's mentor, the vibraphonist Gary Burton, helped Metheny arrange the songs and accompanied him to the recording session in Germany. Despite that, Burton never received a producer credit on the release. Metheny has described the album as being "moderately successful" when it was released, selling around 900 copies, but that it wasn't until 10–15 years later that it received wider recognition. Drummer
A drummer is a percussionist who creates music using drums. Most contemporary western bands that play rock, pop, jazz, or R&B music include a drummer for purposes including timekeeping and embellishing the musical timbre. Keyboardist
A keyboardist or keyboard player is a musician who plays keyboard instruments. Until the early 1960s musicians who played keyboards were generally classified as either pianists or organists. Since the mid-1960s, a plethora of new musical instruments with keyboards have come into common usage, such as synthesizers and digital piano, requiring a more general term for a person who plays them. Nando Lauria
Nando Lauria (born 11 May 1960) is a Brazilian singer and guitarist. Biography At the age of seven, Lauria picked up the violao (Brazilian acoustic guitar). He was raised in a musical family where his older brother played electric guitar in a band. Lauria used to go to their concerts and mimic their appearance at home on violao. As a youth he listened repeatedly to the music of The Beatles and popular Brazilian musicians of the 1970s. On his own he picked up elements of the music and taught himself to play chords. He learned to improvise and take great pleasure in his musical discoveries. At the age of 12 he took part in many school productions and was seen on local television and theater.
