Panos Koronaios
Panos Koronaios ( el, Πάνος Κορωναίος) was a Hellenic Army officer who reached the rank of lieutenant general, and a prominent military leader in the overthrow of King Otto of Greece in 1862 and in the Cretan Revolt of 1866–1869. He was born in Constantinople in 1809, to a family that hailed from Kythira and the Mani Peninsula. Following the outbreak of the Greek War of Independence in 1821, his family left the Ottoman capital and settled in Corfu. At the age of 17, Koronaios left Corfu and joined the small regular army of the Greek rebels. Under the command of Colonel Rodios, he fought in the failed Chios expedition of 1827–28. When the Hellenic Military Academy was established in 1828, he entered as one of the first students, and was commissioned the first Greek artillery officer with the rank of adjutant. Benizelos Roufos
Benizelos Roufos (; 1795–1868) was a Greek politician and Prime Minister of Greece. Biography Early life Roufos was born in Patras in 1795, a scion of the wealthy Roufos-Kanakaris family. He was the son of Athanasios Kanakaris who fought during the Greek War of Independence. Career During the government of Ioannis Kapodistrias (1828–1830), Roufos became governor of Elis. Later he would also serve as Foreign Minister. In 1855, Roufos was elected Mayor of Patras, a post he held for three years. Nafplion
Nafplio ( ell, Ναύπλιο) is a coastal city located in the Peloponnese in Greece and it is the capital of the regional unit of Argolis and an important touristic destination. Founded in antiquity, the city became an important seaport in the Middle Ages during the Frankokratia as part of the lordship of Argos and Nauplia, held initially by the de la Roche following the Fourth Crusade before coming under the Republic of Venice and, lastly, the Ottoman Empire. The city was the second capital of the First Hellenic Republic and of the Kingdom of Greece, from 1827 until 1834. Name The name of the town changed several times over the centuries. The Hellenic Army Academy ( el, Στρατιωτική Σχολή Ευελπίδων), commonly known as the Evelpidon, is a military academy. It is the Officer cadet school of the Greek Army and the oldest third-level educational institution in Greece. It was founded in 1828 in Nafplio by Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of the modern Greek state. Overview The institution was created to provide officers for all the Arms of the Hellenic Army (Infantry, Armour, Artillery, Signals, Engineering, and Army Aviation), as well as some of the Corps (the Technical Corps, the Transport and Supply Corps, and the Ordnance Corps).
