Padilla Municipality, Tamaulipas
Padilla Municipality is a municipality in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. After the flood at the Vicente Guerrero Dam in 1970, the seat was moved from Padilla to the town of Nuevo Padilla. Padilla is known for being the place where the Mexican liberator and Emperor Agustín de Iturbide was executed by a firing squad. It is also the place where Manuel de Mier y Terán, a Mexican general, took his life with a sword. The town was established on 6 January 1749 by José de Escandón, then a Spanish Indian-fighter in New Spain and the founder and first governor of the colony of Nuevo Santander. The town was named after Maria Padilla, the wife of Juan Francisco de Güemes, the viceroy of New Spain. At the time of its establishment, more than 40 people from Hidalgo, Linares, and Río Blanco resided in the area. As of 2010, the municipality of Padilla has a population of 14,020. Padilla, Bolivia
Padilla (originally, San Miguel de La Laguna; subsequently, San Juan de Rodas, and La Laguna) is a small town in the Chuquisaca Department of Bolivia, located southeast by road from Tomina Province. It is the centre of the municipality of the same name. As of 2010, it had an estimated population of 3697, an increase on the 2001 census figure of 2714, and a decrease from ca. 1904 when its population was approximately 6,000. History Padilla was established on June 23, 1583. Along with Tomina, Padilla was originally established as a fort against eastern Indian warriors, the Chiriguanos (Guaraní). Captain Don Miguel Martinez established the town in 1583 under the name of San Miguel de La Laguna. Moises Padilla, officially the Municipality of Moises Padilla ( hil, Banwa sang Moises Padilla; tl, Bayan ng Moises Padilla), is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Negros Occidental, Philippines. Padilla Bay is a bay located in the U.S. state of Washington, between the San Juan Islands and the mainland. Fidalgo Island and Guemes Island lie to the west of Padilla Bay. Early life Padilla was born to Heberto Padilla, a Cuban writer and poet, and his wife, the artist and poet Belkis Cuza Malé. Heberto Padilla was out of favor with the government of Fidel Castro at the time of Ernesto's birth, and the family was living under house arrest in an apartment in the Marianao neighborhood of Havana.
