Płońsk Memorial House
The Płońsk Memorial House () is a museum in Płońsk commemorating the history of two nations that have coexisted in one town for nearly 500 years – Polish and Jewish. It was established in October 2023 in the house at 2 Warszawska Street, opposite the David Ben-Gurion David Ben-Gurion ( ; ; born David Grün; 16 October 1886 – 1 December 1973) was the primary List of national founders, national founder and first Prime Minister of Israel, prime minister of the State of Israel. As head of the Jewish Agency ...’s family home, who was born in Płońsk. The permanent exhibition "Glance and recall" in the Memorial House shows the history of the Jewish community of Płońsk and the Holocaust, as well as of Ben-Gurion himself. Płońsk
Płońsk (; ) is a town in central Poland with 21,591 inhabitants (2022). Situated at the Płonka river in the historic region of Mazovia, it is the seat of Płońsk County in the Masovian Voivodeship. History According to archaeological research, the Płońsk Gord (archaeology), stronghold was built in the late 10th century within the Duchy of Poland (c. 960–1025), early Polish state. Dating back to 1155, is the first historical record confirming the existence of Płońsk. Around the castle a group of inhabitants was formed, most of whom initially worked on the land. David Ben-Gurion
David Ben-Gurion ( ; ; born David Grün; 16 October 1886 – 1 December 1973) was the primary List of national founders, national founder and first Prime Minister of Israel, prime minister of the State of Israel. As head of the Jewish Agency from 1935, and later president of the Jewish Agency Executive, he was the ''de facto'' leader of the Yishuv, Jewish community in Palestine, and largely led the movement for an independent Jewish state in Mandatory Palestine. Born in Płońsk, then part of Congress Poland, to Polish Jewish parents, he immigrated to the Mutasarrifate of Jerusalem, Palestine region of the Ottoman Empire in 1906. Adopting the name of Ben-Gurion in 1909, he rose to become the preeminent leader of the Jewish community in British-ruled Mandatory Palestine from 1935 until the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, which he led until 1963 with a short break in 1954–55.
