Pārdaugava
Pārdaugava (literally means "Trans" or "Over" -Daugava area, formerly ) is an area most often associated with Riga, composed of several neighbourhoods on the west (left) bank of Daugava River. The name is literally translated as 'over Daugava'. In the late Soviet period (around 1990) in Riga appeared several sports teams with such name and previously were associated with the Soviet Daugava club (originally associated with Soviet Dynamo sports society). Those were football team FK Pārdaugava and hockey team Dinamo Riga (original). History Since the 13th century, what is now Pārdaugava was part of the patrimonial area of Riga, or the Rural District, which belonged to the City of Riga. This territory was granted to the city by the papal legate William of Modena as early as 1226. FK Pārdaugava
FK Pārdaugava was a Latvian football club based in Riga. It was founded in 1984 as Daugava-RVR, the youth team of FK Daugava Riga and became defunct in 1995. In 1991 it replaced FK Daugava and played in the Soviet First League. It completed the 1991 season in last place (22nd). After the fall of the Soviet Union, FK Pārdaugava for few seasons played in the Latvian Higher League. In 1995, with the bankruptcy of its sponsors, the club was dissolved after the 8th round of the Virslīga. Former Latvian football legend Gunārs Ulmanis was a coach in the team from 1991 to its dissolution. Dinamo Riga (original)
Dinamo Riga () was a Soviet ice hockey club, based in Riga, Latvia. It was founded in 1946 and disestablished in 1995 as Pārdaugava Rīga. From 1949 to 1963 Dinamo Riga was joined with Daugava sports society which was sponsored by Riga's factories VEF and then Rīgas Vagonbūves Rūpnīca, RVR. History of Dinamo Riga Dinamo Riga was established in 1946, after the Soviet re-occupation of Latvia in 1944, re-occupation of Latvia by the Soviet Union. It was a part of Dynamo (sports society), Dynamo sports society sponsored by the Soviet Ministry of Interior and the national security structures including the KGB. Serfdom
Serfdom was the status of many peasants under feudalism, specifically relating to manorialism and similar systems. It was a condition of debt bondage and indentured servitude with similarities to and differences from slavery. It developed during late antiquity and the Early Middle Ages in Europe and lasted in some countries until the mid-19th century. Unlike slaves, serfs could not be bought, sold, or traded individually, though they could, depending on the area, be sold together with land. Actual slaves, such as the kholops in Russia, could, by contrast, be traded like regular slaves, abused with no rights over their own bodies, could not leave the land they were bound to, and marry only with their lord's permission. Serfs who occupied a plot of land were required to work for the lord of the manor who owned that land.
