Pétur Guðmundsson (basketball)
Pétur Karl Guðmundsson (born 30 October 1958) is an Icelandic former professional basketball player and coach. Standing , weighing and playing the center (basketball), center position, Pétur was the first Icelander and one of the first European players ever to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Often described as the greatest Icelandic basketball player of all time, he was named the Icelandic basketball team of the 20th century, Icelandic Basketball Player of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Association in 2001, and in 2015, he was inducted in to the ÍSÍ Hall of Fame, National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland Hall of Fame. In basketball, a rebound, sometimes colloquially referred to as a board, is a statistic awarded to a player who retrieves the ball after a missed field goal or free throw. The Icelandic Basketball Association Women's All-Star Game was a basketball exhibition game hosted by the Icelandic Basketball Association (KKÍ). It was held was held annually from 2004 to 2014 and featured a mix of the countries star players. The first annual All-Star Game was played at the Seljaskóli Stadium on 14 January 2004. It was last held on 24 January 2014 at the Ásvellir stadium. The Icelandic Men's Basketball Cup (Icelandic: Bikarkeppni KKÍ), also known as VÍS bikarinn for sponsorship reasons, is an annual professional basketball competition between clubs in Iceland. It is Iceland's first-tier cup competition, and is not to be confused with Iceland's former second-tier cup competition, the Company Cup.
