Pål Enger
Pål Enger (26 March 1967 – 29 June 2024) was a Norwegian art thief who was best known for stealing the paintings ''The Scream'' and '' Love and Pain'' by Edvard Munch. In his early life, he played football for Vålerenga Fotball. Early life and football Growing up, Enger was part of the core of the criminal led by the money collector , which led to a sentence of one year for profiteering as a 16-year-old. When he was 19, he served his first sentence at Ullersmo prison. In his teenage years, Enger was a promising footballer for Vålerenga Fotball. When he was 19, he played three matches as a substitute for Vålerenga's first team: twice in the Norwegian first division, and once in the UEFA Cup. After serving three years in prison for the theft of ''Love and Pain'', Enger tried to take up football again in 1991, playing for Mercantile in the third tier of Norwegian football. Oslo
Oslo ( or ; ) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The National Gallery () is a gallery in Oslo, Norway. Since 2003 it is administratively a part of the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design. Art theft, sometimes called art napping, is the stealing of paintings, sculptures, or other forms of visual art from galleries, museums or other public and private locations. Stolen art is often resold or used by criminals as collateral to secure loans. Only a small percentage of stolen art is recovered—an estimated 10%. Many nations operate police squads to investigate art theft and illegal trade in stolen art and antiquities. Some famous art theft cases include the robbery of the ''Mona Lisa'' from the Louvre in 1911 by employee Vincenzo Peruggia. Another was theft of ''The Scream'', stolen from the Munch Museum in 2004, but recovered in 2006. Bjarne Melgaard (born 9 September 1967) is a Norwegian artist based in New York City. He has been described as "one of Norway's most important artists" and, following the 2014 publicity about his sculpture ''Chair'', "the most famous Norwegian artist since Edvard Munch." Life and work Melgaard was born in Sydney, Australia to Norwegian parents, and was raised in Oslo, Norway. In 2009, he moved permanently to New York. Melgaard studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts, Rijksakademie in Amsterdam from 1991 to 1992 and at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht from 1992 to 1993. Early in his career Melgaard created controversial installations referencing subversive subcultures such as S&M and heavy metal music. Currently, his practice consists of an emphasis on expressionistic paintings and drawings, often containing text. Vebjørn Sand (born March 11, 1966) is a Norwegian painter and artist. He is known for his paintings as well as his public arts projects, such as the Vebjørn Sand Da Vinci Project, Da Vinci Project, and the Kepler–Poinsot polyhedron, Kepler Star monument (Norwegian Peace Star) at Oslo Airport, Gardermoen.
