Pärnamäe Cemetery
Pärnamäe Cemetery () is a cemetery in Pirita District, Tallinn, Estonia. Its area is 105.6 ha. The cemetery was opened in 1962, and the cemetery was the merger of two former cemeteries. The first burial took place in 1963. In 1993, a crematorium (the first in Estonia) was opened at the cemetery. Pirita
Pirita is one of the eight administrative districts () of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Pirita occupies a relatively large area, but compared to other districts of Tallinn its population of 17,592 (as of 1 November 2014) is relatively small. It mostly consists of private houses instead of the large blocks of flats typical of some other districts of Tallinn, such as Lasnamäe and Mustamäe. Estonian Encyclopaedia Publishers () was an Estonian publisher which published reference literature (like encyclopedias, atlases) and popular science literature. As of 2009, publisher's main shareholders were Hardo Aasmäe (owned 25.6%), Jüri Ott (owned 20.4%), and Ülo Kaevats (owned 12.0%). In 2011, the publisher went bankrupt. However, the bankruptcy proceedings got stuck because the owner of the publishing house's last office, Ülemiste City, confiscated the property in the company's office and sold it to cover the 9,000-euro rent debt. Bankruptcy administrator Tiina Mitt estimated its value at over 4.3 million euros. The location of sold documents, author contracts and books under editing is unknown. Andres Ehin
Andres Ehin (14 March 1940 – 10 December 2011) was an Estonian writer and translator. In 1964 he graduated from University of Tartu, studying Estonian philology (especially Finno-Ugric studies). From 1972 to 1974 he was the senior scientific editor of Estonian Soviet Encyclopaedia. From 1972 he was a member of Estonian Writers' Union. From 1968 to 1989 he was a member of Communist Party. In 1990 he joined Estonian Social Democratic Party. He married Ly Seppel (Ehin). Their daughter is poet Kristiina Ehin. Boris Jaanikosk
Boris Jaanikosk (born Boris Jankovski, later Boris Borissoff; June 16, 1897 – June 1, 1976) was an Estonian film actor and film director. Life and work Boris Jaanikosk was born Boris Jankovski and later Estonianized his family name to Jaanikosk. In 1929, Jaanikosk played one of the leading roles in the Estonian film production ''Jüri Rumm'', directed by Johannes Loop. The film premiered in December 1929. In 1930, he directed the first musical film in Estonian film history. The short film ''Kuldämblik'' (The Golden Spider), for which he also wrote the screenplay, was also the first Estonian sound film. The black-and-white film is considered lost. In the 1950s, Boris Jaanikosk worked as an editor for the Soviet Estonian newsreel ''Filmikroonika''. Leida Laius
Leida Laius (26 March 1923, in Horoshevo, Yamburgsky Uyezd, Russia – 6 April 1996, in Tallinn) was an Estonian film director. She is widely received as one of the most renowned filmmakers in Estonian cinema. In 1995 she was honored by the Estonian Cultural Foundation with the Lifetime Achievement Award in special recognition of her contributions to the cultural history of Estonia. Life Leida Laius was born into a wealthy farming family and grew up in Jamburg, later renamed Kingissep, near Saint Petersburg. Her mother Armanda was Estonian and came from an upper middle-class family in Narva, her father was Russian. He was deported to a labor camp as a kulak during the Stalin era in the late 1930s and executed there as part of the so-called Great Purge. Semyon Semyonovich Shkolnikov
Semyon Semyonovich Shkolnikov (; ; 14 January 1918 – 27 July 2015) was a Soviet and later Estonian cinematographer, director, screenwriter, and front-line cameraman during the Great Patriotic War. He was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Estonian SSR (1978), and was the laureate of three Stalin Prizes (1946, 1947, 1951), the Nika Award (2005), and the Guild of Cinematographers' White Square Prize (2005). Hannes Starkopf
Hannes Starkopf (January 7, 1965 – August 19, 2021) was an Estonian sculptor. Early life and education Starkopf was born in Tallinn. He graduated from in 1983 and from Tallinn Art University in 1991 as a sculptor. Career Starkopf worked as a lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Arts from 1993 onward, and he became the head of the Department of General Sculpture in 1995.
