Purdue Boilermakers Track And Field
The Purdue Boilermakers track and field team is the track and field program that represents Purdue University. The Boilermakers compete in NCAA Division I as a member of the Big Ten Conference. The team is based in West Lafayette, Indiana at the Rankin Track & Field Complex. The program is coached by Tony Miller. The track and field program officially encompasses four teams because the NCAA considers men's and women's indoor track and field and outdoor track and field as separate sports. Corissa Yasen has the most All-American finishes of any Purdue athlete, with eight in the high jump and one national title in the women's heptathlon from 1993 to 1996. Postseason AIAW The Boilermakers have had 13 AIAW All-Americans finishing in the top six at the AIAW indoor or outdoor championships. Purdue Boilermakers
The Purdue Boilermakers are the official college athletics in the United States, intercollegiate athletics teams representing Purdue University, located in West Lafayette, Indiana. As is common with athletic nicknames, the Boilermakers nickname is also used as colloquial designation of Purdue's students and alumni at large. The nickname is often shortened to "Boilers" by fans. Purdue is one of the few college athletic programs that is not funded by student fees or subsidized by the university. Origin of "Boilermakers" nickname In 1889, the Purdue football team played Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and won the game 18-4. Students from the college and citizens of Crawfordsville began calling the Purdue players "a great big burly gang of corn-huskers", "wikt:granger, grangers", "pumpkin-shuckers", "railsplitters", "blacksmiths," "cornfield sailors", and "foundry hands".
