The Purdue Boilermakers football team represents Purdue University in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of college football. Purdue plays its home games at Ross–Ade Stadium on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. The head coach of Purdue is Barry Odom, the 38th head coach in Purdue history. The Boilermakers compete in the Big Ten Conference. With a 629–583–48 record at the conclusion of the 2021 season, Purdue has the 55th-most victories among NCAA FBS programs. 1887 Purdue Football Team
The 1887 Purdue football team was an American football team that represented Purdue University as an independent during the 1887 college football season. The team compiled an 0–1 record in the university's first season fielding an intercollegiate football team. Albert Berg, a deaf 23-year-old Princeton University alumnus, was the team's coach. The team of 12 players practiced for one week before playing in the school's first official football game. The Purdue University football team traces its origin back to October 29, 1887, when its team fell to Butler Bulldogs football, Butler College by a score of 48–6 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Indiana Hoosiers Football
The Indiana Hoosiers football program represents Indiana University Bloomington in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision college football and in the Big Ten Conference. The Hoosiers have played their home games at Memorial Stadium (Indiana), Memorial Stadium since 1960. The team has won the Big Ten Championship twice, once in 1945 and again in 1967. Albert Berg
Albert Berg (April 16, 1864 – March 5, 1945) was an American football player, coach, teacher, and an advocate, writer and editor on issues of concern to the deaf. Berg was rendered deaf as the result of a childhood bout of spinal meningitis. He played football in Washington, D.C. at the school that became known as Gallaudet University. Despite being deaf, he became the first football coach at Purdue University, coaching the team to an 0–1 record in the inaugural 1887 season. Berg also coached football at Franklin College and Butler University. He later served for more than 40 years as a teacher at the Indiana School for the Deaf. Early years Berg was born in Lafayette, Indiana in 1864. His mother died when he was an infant, and he contracted spinal meningitis as a boy. The illness rendered Berg deaf.
