Pulheim
Pulheim (; Ripuarian: ''Pullem'') is a town in the Rhein-Erft-Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Since the 1920s, a large substation of the ''Rheinisch-Westfälisches Elektrizitätswerk AG'' ( RWE) is located at Pulheim. It is the end of the North–South Powerline and a large control center for the power grid of the RWE. In the communal reform of 1975, several previously independent municipalities were added to the municipality Pulheim, which received city rights in 1981. Pulheim consists of 12 quarters (''Stadtteile''), including Brauweiler, Geyen and Stommeln. Geyen
Geyen is a village, part of the town Pulheim in the Rhein-Erft-Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Location Geyen is situated at the old road from Pulheim to Brauweiler. Additionally the "Pulheimer Bach", or stream of Pulheim flows through Geyen. History Originally Geyen was called ''villa Gegina'' in 962 AD. Politically Geyen belonged to the office of Bergheim and to the duchy of Jülich. 1794 French troops occupied Geyen, which meant it belonged to the ''Arrondissement de Cologne'' in the ''Département de la Roer''. After that Geyen came to belong to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815. In recent times Geyen belonged to Pulheim (1956), then to Brauweiler (1964) and then since 1975 it belongs to Pulheim again. Pulheimer SC is a German sports club from Pulheim. It has sections for association football, handball, baseball ( Pulheim Gophers), hockey, inline hockey, volleyball, badminton, tennis, table tennis, budo, fencing, track and field, cycling, swimming, dancing, and chess. In June 1924, ''SC Sparta Pulheim'' was founded as a football club. Numerous other sports were added over the years. Stommeln () is a village (''Stadtteil''), part of the town of Pulheim, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It has a population of 8,462 (2021). Brauweiler is a part of Pulheim, west of Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. Ripuarian ( ) or Ripuarian Franconian is a German dialect group, part of the West Central German language group. North–South Powerline
The North–South Powerline, or Nord-Süd-Leitung, is the world's oldest interconnection for electric current. It was built between 1924 and 1929 by RWE AG, to transport electricity produced in the hydro-electric power plants in Vorarlberg, Austria and the southern Black Forest to the Ruhr district. The line begins in Bludenz and in Herbertingen connects with a second line, which comes from Tiengen. It continues to the transformer stations at Ludwigsburg-Hoheneck, Mannheim-Rheinau, Kelsterbach, Koblenz, and Bad Neuenahr to Brauweiler. The entire line was originally installed on pylons with a three-tiered arrangement.
