Promo Besançon
PROMO (Promoting Missouri) is a Missouri statewide LGBTQ advocacy and lobbying nonprofit organization. A member of the Equality Federation, it is the largest LGBTQ organization in the state. So called conversion therapy is as of July 2018 still legal in Missouri (with the exception of a few jurisdictions) and PROMO is campaigning to ban the practice when it is forced on minors. PROMO, and partners such as the ACLU of Missouri and the Human Rights Campaign, work to pass a non-discrimination act in Missouri. A current project PROMO supports, with MTUG, is the Transgender Memorial Garden in St. Louis. PROMO is a major supporter of St. Louis PrideFest. What became PROMO formed in 1986 as People Aligned for Change and Equality (PACE), in response to ''Bowers v. Hardwick''. In 1990 it was formally registered as Privacy Rights Education Project (PREP). SAGE Metro St. Louis merged into PROMO in 2015. One Iowa is a statewide LGBTQ equality organization. The organization works to preserve and advance equality for LGBTQ individuals in Iowa through advocacy, grassroots efforts, and education. Fairness Campaign
The Fairness Campaign is a Louisville, Kentucky-based lobbying and advocacy organization, focusing primarily on preventing discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The Fairness Campaign is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(4) organization. The organization is a member of the Equality Federation. Founding In 1981, Sam Dorr, a branch manager at Louisville's First National Bank, was fired from his job because he was gay. The incident, and Dorr's subsequent lawsuit, led many of Louisville's homosexual men and women to form Gays and Lesbians United for Equality (GLUE) to educate the public and raise awareness for gay rights issues. Transgender Memorial Garden
The Transgender Memorial Garden is a memorial to transgender people killed by anti-LGBTQ violence. It is located at 2800 Wyoming Street (at California Ave) in the Benton Park West neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. Origins It was formerly located at 1469 S. Vandeventer Avenue (at Hunt Ave) in The Grove neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. The former site of the memorial was planted with native Missouri trees and wildflowers and was created by volunteers in October and November 2015. The purpose of the memorial is to provide a space to mourn the loss of transgender people to violence and celebrate transgender lives.
