Progresso Associação do Sambizanga, also known as PAS, was a basketball club from Luanda, Angola. The basketball team competed in the top flight Angolan League, as well as other local competitions organized by the Angolan Basketball Federation. After being relegated to the second division in the previous year, Progresso won the 2014 Angola Second Division Basketball Championship, thus being promoted to the 2015 BIC Basket In 2017, the basketball team ceased operations. The Angolan Men's Basketball League, (in Portuguese: ''Campeonato Nacional de Basquetebol em Séniores Masculinos''), for sponsorship reasons known as the Unitel Basket, is the top tier men's basketball league in Angola. Progresso Associação do Sambizanga is an Angolan football club based in Luanda. The club was founded in 1975, as a result of a merger of three clubs: Juventude Unida do Bairro Alfredo (JUBA), Juventista and Vaza. Progresso do Sambizanga is notably the only club in Girabola to maintain a women's soccer team, even without official competition. They play their home games at the state-owned Estádio da Cidadela. 2016–17 BIC Basket
The 2016–17 BIC Basket (39th edition), Angola's top tier basketball club competition, ran from November 15, 2016 through May 25, 2017. It consists of four stages plus the playoffs. At the initial stage (regular season) all nine teams played each other in a double round robin system. In stage 2 (group stage), the top five teams from the regular season played in a single round robin in each group. In stage 3 (qualification stage), the top five teams from group stage 1 played in a round robin in group A whereas the four teams in group B plus the relegated team from group A played round robin classification matches in group B. In stage 4 (playoffs), a best-of-five series will be played between first-seeded vs eighth-seeded, 4th vs 5th, 2nd vs 7th and 3rd vs 6th.
