2016–17 BIC Basket
The 2016–17 BIC Basket (39th edition), Angola's top tier basketball club competition, ran from November 15, 2016 through May 25, 2017. It consists of four stages plus the playoffs. At the initial stage (regular season) all nine teams played each other in a double round robin system. In stage 2 (group stage), the top five teams from the regular season played in a single round robin in each group. In stage 3 (qualification stage), the top five teams from group stage 1 played in a round robin in group A whereas the four teams in group B plus the relegated team from group A played round robin classification matches in group B. In stage 4 (playoffs), a best-of-five series will be played between first-seeded vs eighth-seeded, 4th vs 5th, 2nd vs 7th and 3rd vs 6th. The winners of the first and second match-up and of the third and fourth will play a best-of-five semifinal playoff whereas the losers will play a best-of-three 5th-8th classification round. BIC Basket
The Angolan Men's Basketball League, (in Portuguese: ''Campeonato Nacional de Basquetebol em Séniores Masculinos''), for sponsorship reasons known as the Unitel Basket, is the top tier men's basketball league in Angola. C.D. Primeiro de Agosto (basketball), Primeiro de Agosto has been the most successful club in Angola with a total of 19 titles won, followed by Atlético Petróleos de Luanda (basketball), Petro de Luanda who have 17 championships. The champions of each Unitel Basket season qualify directly for the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Gerson Gonçalves
Gerson Henriques Gonçalves (born 29 March 1996), also known as Lukeny, is an Angolan basketball player for AMSB of the French LNB Pro B. He played nine seasons for Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League, where he was a two-time league MVP winner (2019 and 2022) and a BAL champion in 2024. Professional career Angola Gonçalves played for Petro de Luanda in the 2015 FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup. He participated in the 2018–19 Africa Basketball League where he averaged 6.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Gonçalves was named the MVP of the Angolan League in 2019, after winning his second title with Petro.
