Priyanka Fernando
Major General Priyanka Fernando, RWP, USP, is a former senior Sri Lanka Army officer. He has served as the Director General of General Staff (DGGS); General officer commanding (GOC), 58 Division; Commandant of the Ranaviru (veterans) Resource Centre; Director of Rehabilitation; and the Director of Real Estate and Quartering. He served as the Colonel of the Regiment of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment and was the Sri Lankan Minister Counsellor (Defence) in London. Early life and education Fernando was educated at D. S. Senanayake College. Military career Early career Fernando enlisted the Sri Lanka Army regular force as a cadet officer on 27 October 1986, receiving his basic training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Gemunu Watch on 23 July 1987. Mechanized Infantry Regiment
The Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) is a mechanized infantry regiment of the Sri Lanka Army. It is made up of four regular battalions and a volunteer battalion. Establish in 2007 by Lt. Gen. The High Commission of Sri Lanka ( ''Shri Lanka Maha Komasaris Karyalaya Landanaya'') in London is the diplomatic mission of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom. The former State Councilor Claude Corea was appointed as the representative of the Government of Ceylon to the United Kingdom on 24 September 1946. With Ceylon gaining self rule on 4 February 1948, the High Commission of the Dominion of Ceylon was opened on 22 October 1948 at 13 Hyde Park Gardens, London. It was the second overseas diplomatic mission of Ceylon and the first embassy established by Ceylon after gaining its independence from Britain. 59 Division (Sri Lanka)
The 59 Division is an division of the Sri Lanka Army formed in 2007. A principal offensive division it is currently deployed for combat operations in the Mullaitivu region. Sri Lankan Civil War Operations Formed in the Welioya sector it was tasked with advancing from Welioya to the LTTE stronghold of Mullaitivu. The division captured key LTTE bases in the jungles of Mullaitivu, these included Muhagam camp (May 30, 2008), Michael camp (May 30, 2008), Suganthan camp (July 27, 2008), Jeevan camp (August 16, 2008) that belong to the ''one four'' base complex.
